My xbox was soft modded. I took it to the guy that modded it for me because games ran choppy. He did something to it now I get an error 9. Or an error 11. I tried hotswapping it to rebuild it and my pc will not see the drive. I followed the instructions I found on here to do it with xboxhdm. Still nothing. I even tried putting a different hard drive in it but can not lock the drive because I don't have the eeprom from my xbox. I am at a loss now. Anyone have any ideas or is there anyone that might be able to work on it if I ship it? The guy that fixed it the first time refuses to do anything with it. I need some major help with this.

Nice guy!
Does the xbox boot disks still? Try booting up a retail and see if it responds, that should tell us where we are at. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Yea he is a real nice guy. When I try to boot up to a retail disc the light starts blinking red right off the bat and I get an error code 09. That is with a retail disc in. I have tried 4 or 5 different ones. Now if I try to boot with the disc out it alternates between 9 and 11... Kinda going nuts here. lol

Was wondering if I were to buy a mod chip if that would take care of my problem. I have a 40gb hard drive I would like to use and already have it formatted with the fatx partition. Just no way to lock it with the old drive inaccessable and unable to get to the eeprom. If a mod chip would work which should I get. I would prefer a solderless if that will work. Thanks for any input. THis is a great site for a newb like me. hehe.

Sounds like this guy dosent know how to fix the error(s) he made. That guy should not be modding. Now as for your problem it could be that the IDE cable came loose in your xbox or your harddrive fried. But its looking that you need to buy a modchip and replace the harddrive. _________________

Heres something else I found for ya,
According to llamma.com, error code 09 means "Xbox motherboard is having trouble communicating with the Hard Drive...this is probably due to an ATA controller on the motherboard and not due to the hard drive itself." When the error screen appears, the light around the eject button flashes red instead of green. The disc tray will not open and the system will not boot up at all. You could also have corrupt EEPROM settings. Solution(s): Make sure the jumper is on cable select (the new harddrives have many different options that you can choose depending on the way you set the jumper ..so just check it ,make sure someone didnt get confused. Try replacing the IDE cable. _________________

I found that post as well. And thought to try it. Same error messages even with new cable. When I followed the steps for xboxhdm the pc will not even see the drive. And I mean it will not pick it up during ide detection. SO I am kinda ruling out the ide cable. Just doesn't make sense if I unhook the dvd I get an 11. Hook it back up I get a 9. If I unhook the retail and hook up the bigger drive I get a 6. But they all correspond to what the error code means. Anyone know what solderless mod chip would resolve all the headaches?

Do you have your eeprom backed up? If you do all you will need is a new harddrive, if you dont have a eeprom back up then you will have to get a chip. Sounds as if your harddrive is dead. _________________

Do you get an error in the xboxhdm? Probably don't have it on the primary ide cable. _________________ XBOX V1.4

The pc will not even see the drive from the xbox. I follow the hotswap instructions to the t and the pc just won't pick it up. So therefore xboxhdm. And I have it on the primary hd cable. I know that for a fact...ANy other ideas? What solderless mod should I go buy? I am taking it that this drive is going to be pretty much useless. So I might as well buy the mod.

Went and got a new ide cable today and still does the same thing. If I boot the xbox with the dvd and hd connected I get an error code 9. UNhook the dvd and get an error code 11. The hd clicks a little and then goes to the error 9 screen. I have read in the forums the drive could be permantly locked. Anyone have any ideas please?

yea ur hd is for sure dead... if u hear a werid noise or a click then its bad...
we know for a fact that the motherboard works 100% why? cuz u unhook dvd drive and u get 11 u put a diffrent hd and u get 06 ... so motherboard works fine... i was thinking if u can do hotswap with a diffrent hd but the method as " hotswap recover w/out eeprom " tut mb that will work... can anyone confirm that? other then that yep sounds like a chip will defitanly fix it .... what xbox ver is it ? _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

no need for a hotswap, just gotta get a chip and harddrive and build a new harddrive. AID 3's manual comes with instructions on building a new harddrive with a modchip. _________________
