If you don't mind, I'm going to toss this over to the softmod area.
You are more likely to get the answer you seek from the experts in that forum.
I don't think that unlocking a hard drive while having a soft modded box would be enough to create an issue like that.
Have you tried the simple stuff like, turn it off, unplug, then replug and turn it back on? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

yea i tried that but if it isnt the unlocked hard drive thats creating my problem then the only other thing that happened right before was that i was making a file transfer from my xbox to my pc and while that was going on i accedentaly turned off my xbox but i dont know why that would do this to me either

If you were doing the FTP to the C drive of the Xbox... it might have caused an issue. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

No kidding? Educated me as to why. I did not realize that one could not unlock a softmod's HDD. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

wmoser.... deep breath dude.
It's not like the Xbox is useless. It's just learning curve.
This forum has folks that are well versed in softmods and I bet they will get you up and running correctly in short order.
It's not unusual for softmodders to over do it, just look at how full the forum is of "whoops, oh no, help I..." ect. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

What is the deal with the "hot swap" that I have read off and on in this forum and would it help in this situation? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

hotswap is a way to unlock the hd without a eeprom.
so once unlocked you can recreate it .
just a way to recover a dead hd (empty and locked)
but to lock the hd so you can use it with a retail xbox isn't an option without the eeprom.
a softmodded xbox or retail xbox needs a locked hd and needs to be locked with the eeprom.
eeprom is like a key if you don't have it you are fucked because now you need a chip.
