The firmware file is only 178K. that's .1 MB. If not .2. Not a problem for a dialup user like you. Second of all, the forums are here for help, yes, but we're not here to spoon feed you. You're a big boy. I hope you can read, i'm sure you can, if this thread has gone this far.
No one is intentionally insulting you, bro. You're making this harder than it should be. We tell you to get one brand, and you buy another, just because it's cheaper. I know it was on sale, but sometimes you gotta take this price hit. I have the SAME drive you do, and it reads ALL types of media other than DVD+R (and i've used some cheap brands).
If you flashed and built the drive yourself, then you should know how to reflash it with the firmware that j8994 gave you. If that doesn't work, let us know. But like everyone else is saying, you're making this too difficult. We're not your mom and dad. There are 1,000,000 tuts out there to help you out. If this was supposed to be a forum site only, hobbs wouldn't have slaved his ass off for 200+ hours (probably WAYYYY more than that) to make this site what it is.

naaaa, yall didn't tell me to get a certain type of media. i just got something and left. I had no clue. i bought them a while back.
