Well, it's supposed to be a wireless connection.. I have the ms xbox wireless adapter hooked up to the xbox. I hooked it up and did the install cd stuff before I did the first part of the softmod bit that they show on lifehacker.com umm is it possible that I might have mucked up the wep key? or should it have seen it automatically? if I did screw that part up, how do I go about fixing it?

The thing is at the start of the post you said you wold like to run kai but kai wont run on a wireless set up, you got to have a one of the 2.
1. wire from xbox to router and pc to router then router to modem.
2. xbox to pc with x over cable pc to modem with cat 5.
3. this one is harder but you can flash a linksys router with thibor 15 c firmware and all you need is a wire from the xbox to the router and router to modem.

Well, I know I said that.. but I also mentioned that it would be my "ideal" setup. I don't have to have the kai thing. I'm more interested in streaming vids/music from my computer to the xbox. That, and the emulator thing sounds cool too.

Yeah, I actually already have AID plus the update pack and burned it to disc.. though, I don't think I unpacked it completely or something because the disc I burned looks like it's missing stuff like the trainers and what-not. I kept reading so many people talking about it, that it seemed like a good thing to have around (handy). I also have another question now that I'm thinking about it. What's the difference between each of the dashboards? What's the best one to have installed? Will the AID disc let me switch between different dashboards fairly easy? I think I read somewhere that it does.. but I just wanted to make sure.

All dashes are is a lay out and if you ask me(you did) XBMC is the sh*t.
Grate for playing flix and tunes off your pc.
And the T3CH page updates it twice a week.
Some guys in here will say im wrong and that evox or unleash-x are the best but im hooked on XBMC.

check it out lol, go to the MS Dash, and set up your network with the wireless option.
You may have to enter a WEP key as you stated before, but if not leave it blank. Now your wireless adapter should be working. If you need further assistance with the adapter please PM me. _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

HELO...If your just trying to get into you XB and mess with the files then...
First, What OS on your PC are you running
If you are using VISTA, Disable IPV6
If your using XP this is what I do...
GOTO, My Network Places on the Desktop or the start menu depending on how you have XP setup, ADD NEW NETWORK PLACE.

Okay, I have a problem. When I click on MS Dashboard, it says "unable to launch C:\msdash.xbe File doesn't exist. However, I don't know if this helps or not.. but I did hit the "Create MS Backup" item first, and then hit the "Create Mod Backup." before I hit "Install softmod" does that help any?
Oh, I tried to PM but the site comes up with errors.. does the same thing when I try to update my profile on this site.

I am running XP though, I don't think I can do what you suggested until I fix the wireless adapter problem first.. since right now, it's saying that my ip is 0.0.0.0 in the bottom right hand corner of the screen for xbox.

Yeah makeing that backup is a good thing, you can go into the ms backup folder and select the xbox xbe file to launch.
Make sure you dont launch the ms live update xbe that may cause you some head achs.
As for probs with errors with pms and setting your profile, just keep trying the server is going to be updateing for a few days and thats causeing some random errors.

Okay, tell me if I did this right. I went to File Explorer, then E: (because that's where I put the backup I guess), then Backup, then MS, then a file called xboxdash.xbe 'cause I couldn't see one that was just called xbox.xbe. Is that right? Well, I tried that and it gave me one of those screens that says you have to call microsoft and the front flashed green/red. but when i reset the xbox, all was back to normal again, back to the unleashx
So, does that mean that the backup didn't backup properly? or am I doing something wrong?

With my soft mod the backup is in E but the OG msdash is in C, see if you have an xboxdash.xbe in C drive and launch that if not you need to use file manager to make a copy of the xboxdash folder to the C drive and then launch it.
You might be getting the errors since the xbe is looking for the MSdash in the C drive and its not there.
