Post subject: Question about Jewel Mod

In this tutorial... http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Mods/xbox_jewel_led_mod.htm

Is it better to have the actual Y-Splitter adpater cable or a regular cable like the one shown in the tut? I figured it would be easier to do without the wiring into the basic cable. I'd rather take it from somone who has already done this. The basic cable is like $5 cheaper than the Y-plitter. Please let me know.

Also, I will be installing 3mm LEDs and I have 47 ohm resistors that worked fine for my controler ports. Will the 47ohms work for this mod?

I skiped the Y splitter and just taped in to the stock hdd wires myself.
No 47 ohm wont work since your useing more leds and higher volts.
google resistor calculater and you can find what you will need.

According to the resistor calculator, 50ohm is the calculated resistance for 8 LEDs with 7v as supply and 2v fordesired 20mA. I think thats right. Is it not?

I dont know anything about that stuff. I just follow the tutorials. The last one for the ports told me exactly what I needed down the resistor size. I just filled in the fields for the calculator and that's what it came out with. I'll figure it out somehow.

When i did the jewel mod i put in 8 5mm leds and ended up needing about a 15-Ohm resistor.
Dont know if that helps you but thats how i did it. Very Happy

In that tutorial you sent me wes about the softmad from scratch is has this in the directions...

K: 1.00.????.01 (This doesn’t matter)
D: 1.00.xxxx.01
xxxx must be 5960 in order for the Softmod to work properly.

Does this mean that the softmod won't work at all on an XBOX with different numbers than 5960? I only have one that isn't the 5960.

Pop in a xboxlive game like halo2 (make sure its not hooked up to the net) and run it like you was going to play a game on live it should upgrade it for you.

So you mean I was suppose to use a resistor when I did the controller port lightup mod?

I just soldered a led to each port, they were 5v leds I took of a fan , lol.....

and I used Conker live and reloaded to upgrade my msdsh to 5960...
