First of all, I have a 1.6 xbox modded with the smartxx lt oph. I also have a new Seagate Hard Drive im trying to install. So, I've gone by the guide on the website. I copied the C and E drive to my computer via ftp on the old drive. I got the five main files: bios, disk, hddkey, default.xbe, eeprom, as well as a hddinfo and the evox.ini file. I edit the evox.ini file, adding the following under [MENU] like the tutorial tells me to do:
Section "Install Menu"
{
Item "Install New drive",@210
Item "MS Dashboard",ID_MS_Dash
Item "Reboot",ID_Quick_Reboot
Item "Power Off",ID_Power_Off
}
[Action_10]
Info "Install HDD - Xbox-Scene"
Warning "This will format all drives"
Warning "Make sure you have a backup of C & E"
Progress "Formatting drives"
ConfigSector "\backup\disk.bin"
Format c:
Format e:
Format f:
Format x:
Format y:
Format z:
I then create an .iso out of this, burn it to a dvd, pop it in, and the disk actually loads to the evox screen but for the life of me I cannot ftp into the xbox. I've tried so many things! Please help me!

Hi lneidrach,
Since you already have a modchip fitted and working i would seriously suggest you look into the Auto Installer Deluxe written by DJB/Xbox-Hq..
All our members can help you with that..
Once you download AID you need to unrar the .RAR files so you get a AID2.iso file.. You just burn the .iso file to a CDRW/DVD-R using nero or dvddecrypter..
Then boot it in your xbox with your new hdd install.. AID will auto detect your new unformatted hdd and ask if you want to format.. Simple.
Once that is done just install M$ Dashboard to the C:\ drive from AID and also then install any other dashboard you like to the E:\ partition..
You can then lastly lock your new hdd with your eeprom and other information you have using CONFIG MAGIC which is also on AID.
I actually did do that. I know it's not the disk because it worked perfectly on the old hard drive. Also, on this new hard drive, it will say "AID 2.0" instead of "Microsoft" at the bottom on the flubber screen but then goes straigh to error code 21...

Error 21 means all that is missing is a dashboard or the drive isnt formatted/partitioned.
I know for a fact that AID will work fine with your larger hdd..
You just need to find the correct type of CDRW/DVD-R media which boots good in your xbox.
Also, You should burn the .iso as a disc image.. Not Data DVD/CDRW.

I agree with FH, watch for it being a data cd....use something like dvd decrypter to burn it as an image file. _________________ Xbox V1.6

i have a 1.6 box with a smartxx v2 chip also. the easiest way to add a bigger hdd is to use the smartxx OS, and clone your hdd. it will only clone your c and e partitions. i just upgraded mine to a 300 gig drive recently. worked perfectly.

I've used DVD+R and DVD+RW but it hasn't worked. Do you think it would work if I used DVD-R?

I hate to keep bugging you but I'm still not getting it right. I burned AID to several disks, and even added the one gig dummy file with AID Updater. Despite this, is still just says "AID 2.0" at the bottom of the start-up screen before going to error 21.

Just to double check.. You did make sure your new larger hdd jumper settings are set exactly the same as the original XBOX DRIVE??
CS- Cable select is what the original should have been set to..
Check it out and give it a try.
Since AID is showing on the screen your xbox is booting the dvd-r but for some weird reason its going to e21..
just check jumpers to be sure.. Apart from that keep going.. It will boot soon.

Sorry I forgot to mention this, but it's not a larger hard drive, it's just a stock seagate drive because the other stock drive broke. I've done some research and I am now thinking that it might be my samsung drive, which I've read is not so compatible with dvd+r and dvd+rw. Even though it says "AID 2.0" at the bottom, do you still think that it might be a media issue??

Damn, I bought those and even added a 1gb dummy file to the AID, and finalized the dvd, but nothing...maybe I got a bum hard drive...
