but does the bios require a hard drive to work?
because i dont have one coz my last retail one burned out. I have 2 more ordered off ebay and have made shore tey are unlocked ready but i was just wondering if the m8 plus bios requires a hard drive to function? _________________ V1.3 / V1.4 xbox Retail hard drive xecuter 2.6 CE Thomson Dvd drive

Indeed that may be the issue since the bios on it's own only functions to tell the xbox what to do. It needs a dashboard in order to function and that requires the hard drive. You didn't need to buy another retail 8gig hard drive by the way, just about any pc hdd will work if you have the autoinstaller. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

shark i got quite a good deal anyway i got 2 8gigs for £20 which converts into $30 which is quite good. no point buying a computer hard drive now.
but if my new hard drive i place in has a dash are u saying i can boot the m8 bios? _________________ V1.3 / V1.4 xbox Retail hard drive xecuter 2.6 CE Thomson Dvd drive

No doubt it will boot. It's already trying. Now the M8 can be tricky because there is one for the 1.6 and one for all others. Be sure you are using the correct version of the bios. Are you at least getting the flubber screen? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Good deal. So many folks make the mistake of using the wrong M8!
You can use M$, Evox, Avalaunch, XBMC and they can all be on the same drive. Be advised though that if you choose to put any games on your HDD, it's gonna fill up mighty fast. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th
