I just picked up a faulty used chipped xbox and I'm having problems sorting it out.
The first thing I should point out is I have no idea what chip is in it. I opened it up and there does appear to be something in the same area as the Apple chip in my other xbox but there is no name printed on anything.
So back to the problem. The box was giving error code 5 so I tried a different hard drive and found it would then boot to the MS dash but nothing else even though the drive contains EvoX along with a bunch of applications and games. Now my question is how do I get this box to boot to EvoX (or anything other than the MS dash)?
The chip is obviously working as it will load back ups, UK discs, import discs and AID3 with no problem.
Any thoughts?

Load a dash from AID or use AID to boot dash from C or E. _________________ XBOX V1.4

I've tried loading a c drive hacked dash (UnleashX) from AID 3 but it still just comes back with the MS dash when I reboot it. I can use the 'boot dashboard' option on AID 3 to boot an alternative dash but does that mean I need to use the AID disc everytime I want something other than the MS dash on my screen?

I was saying use AID to boot dash, to find out if there is one installed. Maybe you can set up an ftp, to take a better look at what's going on. _________________ XBOX V1.4

There's definitely a dash there as i just took the hard drive out of another chipped xbox so I know exactly what's on it. It was hapily running EvoX and had all sorts of apps on it.
I'm still new to this so don't quite know what setting up an FTP is and how exactly it could help!!

Well, if you can look in a dash like UnleashX, it has a file explorer to look at your files. Ftp you can do the same. What I'm getting at is you can see how things are configured. I'm not a chip guy but maybe someone else can help. _________________ XBOX V1.4

Thanks for trying to help mate. The thing is I wouldn't know what I'm lookng for even if I do get into the files. I noticed a guy over in the AID forum has the same problem as me so hopefully one of the wizz kids wil come up with a solution.

Can anyone else offer any help on this? Gus is trying to help over in the AID forum but we're not really getting anywhere?
Just to be clear, it's a chipped 1.0 xbox and I can't get it to boot to anything other than an MS dash even though there are others already installed on the hard drive. The only way I can access all the other programmes already installed on the hard drive is to load the AID disc and use the boot dashboard option on the disc which then gets me into a different dash and obviously from there I can access dvd2xbox and all the other applications that I had previously loaded onto the hdd when it was in another box
I want to be able to boot to an alternative dash without having to put the AID disc in the tray every time. Any advice greatly appreciated!!

i'm running out of ideals have u try re formating ur hd from scratch? using the chiped box and then reinstalling it from the chiped box and aid 3 ? im sure this is the last thing that might do the trick...

I considered that as a last resort but don't really want to lose everything on the drive if there's another solution.
Is it possible to softmod a chipped xbox? I thought about putting in a 120gb hard drive which I could then lock to the box using AID. Then if I could successfully softmod it I may be able to run a different dash that way. If the softmod goes wrong in anyway then in theory I can sort it out with little problem as the box is chipped couldn't I?
If you think this could work then what do I need to sofmod a box besides the AID3 disc?
