Ok I recently bought a broken box...it came w/ a 120gb maxtor hard drive...the motherboard ended up being unrepairable....so now I am trying to salvage the drive...I can no longer get in contact w/ the guy I bought it off to find out how he installed the larger hard drive. I have tried using xboxhdm to use the default passwords ( TEAMASSEMBLY or XBOXSCENE ) when I type in either of those I am told the password must be less than 32bytes or that the password must be a-f or 1-9 ... it will then list this
SECURITY SUPPORTED - YES
SECURITY ENABLED - NO
SECURITY LOCKED - NO
SECURITY FROZEN - NO
SECURITY COUNT - NO
to me this seems like the drive isnt even locked....so I tried to boot as just a slave on my pc and it recognizes the drive in the bios but not in windows....
any help would be SOOOOO appriciated!!!!

well u can make that hd re formate if that m/b is dead then u cant make that hd work with that motherboard anymore / however if u have another xbox then get its eeprom and put it on the xboxhdm1.9 and on its C put retail ms dash from pirrups signiture and dont put anytin on E nor F then burn the disc and try 2 overight its corrent info
iF it goes suses then its going 2 ask if u want 2 make partition and u 'll loose info say yes and ur on ur way to new xbox hd

what it sounds like is you are pressing option 3 to try ad unlock it...basicly what you need to do (and this is assuming that the drive was put in and locked with xboxhdm) is go to option 1 make the dos boot disk then restart and go to option 4 make sure the drive in on primary master...then in the command prompt type atapwd it will bring up a dos based ata security utility....basicly its goign to list the HD's connected to the computer and have * un there the different active capabilities...what oyu want to do is go to the option unlock with master pass...then type in TEAMASSEMBLY or XBOXSCENE yes caps are important...one of those should unlock it...i have founs that it may take a couple of reboots and refollowing these steps to get it to unlock...but once it does the * under L will go away (thats also assuming it is locked in the first place)....other wise there are some more advanced methods of unlocking the drive that i wouldnt suggest a novice to try (not calling you a newb, just makin sure this is stated)...in which case there are many members of the community who offer to fix these issues for a small fee, such as my self (i charge $25usd +shippin for this particular problem)...oh well best of luck to you...hope this method works...if not then please let us know whats the make and model of the drive? do you have access to the old eeprom (super easy to unlock if you do)? and are you trying to salvage this drive to be a hd in another xbox or salvage it for general pc use? oh and is this drive out of a chipped or softmodded xbox?

guys it is not that easy !
when the mobo died and the hd is still locked you can't just put it in another xbox and do a hotswap.
because when you boot the xbox it can't unlock the hd because it wasn't locked with the correct eeprom.
what you can do is desolder it on the broken mobo and solder it on a new mobo.

Ok thanks for the fast replys....I no longer have the eeprom...I trade the broken board + chip for a new board. It was locked and modded using a modchip (xecuter 2.3b lite). The drive model is maxtor 6Y120L0 , I have the same exact drive in another xbox. I dont think theres much more hope on getting it unlock? Worst case I could just use it as another drive on my pc. But either way I appriciate the efforts!!
btw w/ the atapwd I dont have a floppy drive , I tried making a atapwd bootable cd but it doesnt boot like xboxhdm any suggestions?

pirrup never said anythign about hotswapping...what i was talking about is purely booting the drive from the computer with wbowhdm locked...as for no floppy drive hmm...not exatly sure..i know there are ways to make a dos bootable cd...thats basicly all your doing with atapwd on it...there are a few other utilitizes you can use through dos to perma unlock the drive as well...best of luck to you...if you cant get it unlocked and dont want it anymore or get tired of playin with it i may buy it off you...send me a pm if your interested...
