I have never done a softmod before only Hard mods. Now my question is, I have a v1.6 with a 007 AUF game save on it, but I do not have the game any more, can I still install the softmod? If so how do I go about it?

You'd either need to locate the game, or another game like splinter cell or mech assault OR, you can do the hotswap method. You can find the tutorial and necessary files underneath pirrup's signature. If you search the tutorials database you can also find it. It's really simple and I'm writing a tutorial on using the hotswap method and using AID to custom install the dash of choice with the softmod.
