Posted: Sat Dec 10, 2005 4:16 am Post subject: Noob needs help getting Evox back on Xbox v1.6
I have an v1.6 xbox and a friend of mine installed a xenium solderless chip in it. I was doing everything you can think of with my newly modded xbox. Here is where the trouble comes. I came home from work to play with the xbox and I could not launch evox anymore. I mean the option to launch it was gone. The only thing I could think of was that my kid somehow deleted it off the Exenium dashboard. My friend was sent to Iraq and I came here for help because I honestly don't know how to go about it. I do not want to fry my chip and I definately do not want to lose any of the games that I recently downloaded on my 2 gig hard drive. What my xbox is doing...When I turn my Xbox on, I get the Xenium OS v2.0.1 dashboard. From there I can launch the Retail Kernal only. I can play actual xbox games and DVD's. I can't play any of my downloaded games or any of the Japanese Animation that I got off the internet. I want my evox back and don't know how. I notice that I still have my games on some F: drive and I do not want to lose them installing something if I have to. Could someone walk me through this mishap so I can get back to enjoying my modded xbox. I have learned a valuble lesson "Don't leave your Modded Xbox out so the kids can get to it." Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Sounds to me like your bios is corrupted or your modchip has become loose.. You say your xenium dashboard is still coming up so that rules out the modchip coming loose..
Just double check you cant play a backup dvd or something,, If you can play a backup dvd then its fine.. If you cant then i would suggest flashing your bios with a new bios.. Maybe the EVOX M8 bios..

If the hacked bios is no longer there, someone might have accidently reset your chip. It sounds like all you need is to reflash a hacked bios to your xbox. I believe you can download the bios's from this website. And burning it to a cd is very easy. Than all you have to do is stick in the cd in your xbox, and flash it to the flash memory. _________________ XBOX- V1.0

Yup....sounds like you are missing your bios...you need evox m8+...download the 256kb version of that....burn onto a cdrw....go to add item on the xenium screen...find the file that you have on the disc and flash it...you can get a bit of a more detailed description from the iceguide on teamxodus.com....let us know if ya need any more help with that...later. _________________ Xbox V1.6

First your kid did delete it they just don't dissapear/ For punishment I suggest looking for a small dark closet in your house and using your imagination.
All the suggestions to download and flash a bios are correct, but here is the hitch. Depending on how the Xbox was setup you may need to edit the M8 bios to get it to work. If he installed a HD larger then 137g and created an F: and a G: partition you want to edit the bios to the setting large partition 6, 7 takes rest. if it has one large F: then you want the setting partition 6 takes all, or LBA48 mode. If he didn't install a HD larger than 137g then just the default .bin should be OK. One way to tell is got to the Xenium launch menu choose add item then flash and browse the HD it will show you the partitions on the drive. I want to thank, forahobby, kdx80boy, yoshie1, and Rabid1 for the rapid replies. As for punishiment for my kid...I had him write 1000x "I will not touch Daddy's Xbox without permission." LOL. I am going to look for the Evolution X M8 + BIOS to download. I do have a couple of questions before I do it. Q1: I read that people have been having trouble burning these downloads to a cdrw or dvd rw and I was wondering what media works for my Xbox(the dvd drive has one small hole on each side of the U shape...I think that is the Samsung drive.)? Q2. After you guys answer Q1, when I reflash the BIOS to the chip, will I lose all the downloads on my hard drive? In other words, will reflashing REFORMAT my hard drive? Again many thanks to you guys and I will be doing my homework on this subject before I dive in. I can't wait for the replies so I can go ahead and fix the problem.

Burning the bios to a cdr is very easy, not like Auto Instaler Deluxe (AID). As for reflashing the bios, you will not lose anything on your harddrive (hurray). All the bios does it allow you to run programs that are not microsoft authorized. I wouldn't be too angry with your kid, it is very easy to fix and just as easy to mess up.
For the type of media, probably anything will work. I have the Thompson drive (eww) and it even accepted a normal cdr for the bios file. Just fill up the cdr with extra stuff like mp3's to take up room.
I would suggest going into the settings (under where you select which bios to load up) and set up the quickstart for the hacked bios. That way, all you or your kid as to do is start up the xbox (using the power button) and it will automatically go to evox for you (no going through the xenium os anymore). Than if you want to go back to the M$ bios, all you have to do is start up the xbox using the eject button and you will be back in the xenium os menu. _________________ XBOX- V1.0

You guys are awesome! I see me playing again with my xbox soon. I am going to download the BIOS and flash it to the chip. According to what you guys say, that will enable me to play my games and not lose them ...the ones on the HD. Will I be able to download games on it again or am I going to have to put slayers evox dashboard on it. Or does that come in the bios? Sorry that I am confused. I am a Noob. I will let you know how the cd burning goes. Thanks.

Everything that was on your harddrive has not been touched at all. You will still have all your programs and dashboards just like before (no reinstalling).
Think of the bios as the startup sequence for your xbox. It tells the xbox to first check your dvd drive for a game, then your modem to see if it is connected, than your harddrive for a dashboard, etc etc. (obviously not in this order as I don't know the order). But by adding your own hacked bios, you skip a step where it tells the xbox to only read xbox only software, allowing you to run evox and everything else. It is not really connected to your harddrive though, it just allows programs on your harddrive to run.
That is the easiest way I can think of to explain the bios, someone else might be better able to explain it, but I think you get the idea. _________________ XBOX- V1.0

Ok, I have been at this for a couple of weeks and between work and moving in our new house I am having trouble with a problem. I got my problem down to a very little "simple" thing and that is to flash the Evox M8+ BIOS to my chip. I do not want to directly ask this question and I have PMed yoshie1 and kdx80boy with no answer. If any of you guys could just PM me I will ask my question. As for yosie1 or kdx80boy please answer back. You guys have been the greatest of help and thank you in advance.

You guys rock! A special thanks goes to kdx80boy, your a god send. I was able to download the bios on a DVD+RW (Office Depot) popped it the xbox and flashed the chip. I rebooted and the next thing I saw was the Evox triangle in the upper left hand corner. There was a new problem though...I do have the games on the hard drive but I was still unable to play. I go to play games on hard drive...and it comes up blank. when I look into the hard drive like I am going to flash something, I go to the "F" drive and my games are there. I did notice that some of the items that was on my EvolutionX dashboard, I cannot go into. Here is the list:
DVD Movie Player-Region Free
XBOX Media Player-XBMP
XBOX Media Center-XBMC
Avalaunch Dashboard
DVD2XBOX Game and Media Backup Tool
Manage HDD Game with PxHDD loader
I do not know if I have to re install the slayers Auto installer but I think I will definately lose everything that way. Is there another way around my new problem. I am Greatful that I get the Evox logo up which means that I am a step closer to getting the problem solved.
