first of all hi to all i'm davide from italy..
i just bought a non -modded xbox whit the purpouse to try the hotswap method.. i navigated a lot of site (finally gettin vip on this one wich is the best) and all i got is gettin confused..
i can't find the right infos i hope you'll help me..
first part: hdd_driver
- can a xbox hdd be hotswapped with an external usb ide converter?
- ernie & bert fonts are the same that i found in the c_files_dev-exploit_FINAL.zip package?
- do i have to use a special dash or i can copy the evoxdash.xbe (renaming it default.xbe) that i found in the EvolutionX Build 3935.rar pack?
second part: xboxhdm
-i have to copy the contents of c_files_dev-exploit_FINAL.zip in the c folder of xboxhdm, the copy the dashboard in the cms_dash folder than follow the HOTSWAP:recover a hd without eeprom backup from pirrup? ami i right?

i made exactly like i wrote.. tried it and all i got was the same old M$ dashboard!! what am i doing wrong?

after using even the windows tools (i had to reinstall dash from scratch 4 times) i realized that xboxhdm with the knave hotswap install when building new hd from scratch takes the dashboard located in MS_DASH, copies it and leve off the softmod package.. why is this happening what can i do?

im really sorry for being so annoyng but i really need your help, i dunno what to do.. maybe it's because my box is pal? i dunno what to do! i even tried to build a new c drive from original m$ dash with ernie & bernie & evox but i get an error 21 after booting! im stuck

i can see on the other post you have gotten it to work, i and guess it doesn't build C partition to evey one like you say, you are the second 1 to mention this, and this is like the main idea.
your suppost to get my flies on C, and your MS Dash in the C:\MS_DASH\ folder, for the whole process to install successfully, and some ppl will have to use the built-in browser for this one.
P.S.: It is recomended you try to make a true eeprom backup with another softmod installer, taking your true eeprom, and taking your "MAC Address", writting it down, and open the "eeprom.bin" that comes with my installer, open with liveinfo.exe (windows app), and input your true eeprom mac address, i recently found a bug i'm trying to work around with the release of SID 4. It seems that having 2 xboxe's with same mac address can't ftp to each other, and might not be able to connect on system link to play on Xbox Connect or Xlink Kai. I still have to put more testing to this, but having this virtuall eeprom is one of the great things about my softmods, and it's the dissabling of the hdd unlocking features by tools like ConfigMagic.
Also, since this softmod boots in a certain way, you must not have this file: C:\xboxdashdata.185ead00\settings_adoc.xip" or it could lead to error21 or just a freeze after the X Logo.
Like i said, it seems not to rebuild for you, but if it, it would format, and make things the easier way.
Anyways, i'll try to get this cleared up as soon as i can.

EDIT: about that evoxdash.xbe renaming to default.xbe and this and that, will not work, since all scripting and works of the installer is via menu.xbe and that's unleash X, default.xbe in the firstboot folder is nkpatcher 10 with sole puporse to run a first boot screen to take the install 1 step, and move files around, while the second step, will format virtual C and install MS Dash files on the mount so it's accessable.

first of all i would like you to tank you for your complete answer, i have a few more question tough.. now i have the softmod installed, but when i start my box it asks me every time for the date and the time, then it goes to the normal xbox dash.. my backups altough does boot, how can i fix this? maybe the AID discs will help? and i have another little question, some games stores their files in partitions on the disc how do i managed them (deleting for example)? and why does the M$ dashboard says i have 5000+ blocks left while i have a few used?

Answers.
it seems you might have a 1.1 xbox, or something, but it shouldn't happen at every boot.
Example: i softmoded my 1.1 xbox with this (similar to hotswap), but the softmod is set to avoid clock loop, so that if the font's set the time, to go to ms dash for user to set it, and you shouldn't have to do it on every power up, as it's only if you leave it unplugged for more than 4 hours.
There's IGR (In Game Reboot), so you set your time, after hold both triggers, and the black button, and press "back" or "start" to reboot xbox, allowing you to boot your softmod without having to stand up and power off, and power back on or something, or running a backup.
Managing games is a bit more than i can explain here, if your talking about their saves, then just use the UnleashX Gamesaves Manager, that's located in "system">"Gamesaves Manager", or boot to your MS dash, now for games stored on your partitions, you can go to "Games" and highlight the game, and press "start", you'll get some options, one of them allows you to delete a game. Evox doesn't support this!, or you can use any files Manager/Explorer, and navigate and find your files and delete them (dvd2xbox has a file manager).
As for your 50000+ blocks aviable, that's how MS made it so you don't worry about it, xbox E partition used for games/music/saves, is somewhere around 4.8 gigs, total of 340,000 memory blocks, and you'll never see the 50000+ go down, unless you have gone down, another way to know what your remaining size on discs are, is looking at any dashboard onscreen display, or use a file manager like UnleashX and it's says it all.
Hopes this helps out alot.
P.S.: about that question on the other thread regarding new hdd, and locking with eeprom, yes it's possible, at 100%.
I recomend you to wait for SID 4, when it comes out, all bug free (has my work there), and you can get the gamesaves in your hdd, and a valid MS Backup in E:\backup\MS\ and you should be able to boot to it, and install from more advanced features.
Check your PMs.

thanks this helped me a lot.. turned out the problem was that i unplugged the power cord every time (switching with ps2).. about the games partitions that helped me alot since i do not have the xbox manuals (i bought it used&bulk. Thanks again!!!

i like to inform you that a new hotswap and final will be released soon, and it will be the easiest to find ever..........under Pirrups' Sig, it will feature just about everything you see on a gamesave installer.
1.- you'll get menus and choices.
2.- you'll get 2 choices of install.
-having ms backup to use ms dash.
-no ms backup and sacrificing ms dash.
4.- will support 3 different dashes to be installed.
- Avalaunch
- Evox
- UnleashX.
5.- all new and bug free, fixed eeprom to avoid hdd accidental unlocks, while keeping valuable net info of your true eeprom to avoid system link or ftp messups.
Requirements will be simple:
-have MS dash 5960 (optional but recomended)
-exploit files (the new build i'm working on)
-xboxhdm_1.9 (that linux pc tool)
Some limitations and other xbox requirements.
For install to be succesfull, you must backup eeprom from the built-in menu that will be featured, or else you won't be able to install.
MS Dash is not required for install, but it's fully recomended.
