I encountered error code 13 when I try to boot XBOX(HDD jumper is set to master or cable select).
If I put the Auto Installer Deluxe 2.11 DVD and boot, I will get an error 14.
If I set the jumper of HDD to slave, I will get error 09.
If I put back the retail HDD, XBOX will boot normally to the UnleashX dashboard.
I noticed that the UXE package mentioned a method to install HDD:
http://www.biline.ca/xbox_uxe_hd.htm
which is slightly different than the Michael Brim's post "Installing a Larger Hard-Drive into a Modded Xbox" by:
1. using ConfigMagic to back up the EEPROM, instead of using the Dashboard;
2. using a floppy to provide the EEPROM.bin instead of put it in the ISO disc.
Also I noticed that each time when I back up the EEPROM.bin, it is a little bit different than the old EEPROM.bin.
My question is:
If this is the dashboard problem, then why the Retail HDD works fine, and the rebuilt HDD does not work.
Do I need to backup the EEPROM with ConfigMagic, and use floppy (method: http://www.biline.ca/xbox_uxe_hd.htm) to rebuild the HDD? And I guess I have to unlock it first. ( I really doubt it will make a difference)
Or should I Restore Unmodded Backup, and try to use AID 2.11 to reinstall the MS dashboard, and softmod, etc. before I rebuild the HDD?
Thanks a lot for reading this.

I have heard of problems like this, when using ConfigMagic to backup the eeprom. I would suggest installing Evox on your retail HDD, and using the 'backup' option in the system menu. Eeprom.bin can then be found in C:\Backup, or E:\Backup (can't remeber), along with other HDD info etc.
XboxHDM should work fine with the eeprom in the\linux\...\ folder
I would like another opinion though, because i'm not quite up to speed on softmods etc. _________________

Hi,
It sounds to me like your following the wrong tutorial.
If you have a modchip fitted you could just install the new hdd and then boot AIDeluxe with your modchip turned on and it will find the new hdd and format it automatically.
BUT, since you have a softmod you will need to manually format the new hdd in your pc using pc tools (XBOXHDN) and will also have to lock the hdd and backup your eeprom from the existing retail xbox hdd you have already.
PIRRUPS FAMOUS HOT SWAP TUTORIAL:
This tutorial will get you out of trouble if you have somehow stuffed up your xbox softmod install and havent gotten a backup of your eeprom, hdd key info etc etc.
1. Try to boot with MechAssault, and since I have my softmode game save in the HDD, I might be able to reinstall the softmod;
2. Use the hotswap, and try to install MS dashboard on the C Drive, and also need to do the softmod again.
If both failed, I guess I will have to try another HDD.
Thanks gain. The posts here are really helpful.

Just curious, but how did you get the Mechassault save game exploit onto your new Hitachi HDD if you can't boot your XBox??? Also, I don't believe you will be able to even boot games to use the exploit if your new drive isn't locked properly, can you (seem to recall I had this problem, but I forget now).

When I rebuiltd the HDD using the ISO created by xboxhdm, I should have copied my C and E drive to the new HDD. So I was thinking maybe C drive is not copied or backed up correctly, but the save game should still be on E drive.
I agree that it might be impossible to boot games with this dysfunctional HDD. That's why I am inclined to use xboxhdm to rebuild it and put MS dashboard on the C drive.
Also I copied the HDD key when the HDD is locked, and it seems to be identical to the backup information provided by ConfigMagic, as well as UnleashX dashboard. So I think I have locked it correctly. And error 13 and 14 are both dashboard problems.
Thanks for the comments.

Strangely enough, I can load Mech Assault game now, and I can see my exploit save, but when I try to load it, the screen just go black.
I think maybe I could try a new game, which can download the MS dashboard to the new HDD, and then load the exploit.

Vol-la!
Finally I got it working.
I used the xboxhdn to unlock the HDD, and rebuilt the C drive with MS dashboard. then I tried to run the UXE exploit with Mech Assault, did not work. So I copied the SID 2.0, and it works.
I think there might be 2 things:
1. The UXE package is not compatible with my new HDD;
2. The dashboard is not compatible with new HDD.
Thanks for all the help I got from you guys.
