Hi,
i'm a noob int his softmode thing and I have a question...
Is there a way to softmode a larger HD from the PC?
Like, connect the larger HD in my IDE and use a program that could format, prepare the needed eeprom (put a already backed up) and install a dashboard to be used in the XBOX.
For sure I'm not a programmer and I can be wrong, but it don't seen to be very difficult to creat a kind of boot cd that could prepare the HD from PC. It could be lot easier than use 2 XBOX (one chipped and one for softmoding) or memory cards and stuff.
I thought about it when I saw a metody to softmode the original Hd in the X by pluggin it on computer IDE cable when the XBOX are starting...
Since it would use a different HD (than the original that comes with the X), it might be possible to be prepare before exchanging the HDs.
Am I crazy or it's seen possible?
Tks for your help, you are way better than me in this kind of stuff.

I've seen hdd's over 200 gigs being put in Xboxes. If it is possible to do it via pc, it's a whole lot more work then anyone wants to do when you have an incredible product available courtesy of DJB called the auto installer that will prepare the hdd for you.
Is that a run on sentence? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Maybe...
I can be talking noob things, but it don't make sense thats easier when you need a chipped X or memory cards (and original game) for softmoding. A PC everyone has and it could avoit the necessity of making eeprombackups, since could be created a program that could install an already backed up eeprom and dashboards direct in the larger HD connect in the PC's IDE cable.
Don't seen easier to connect the new HD into PC, use only one program
to softmode and than exchange the HDs in the X? After this procedure you could use the autoinstaller to install the programs you need, since your X might be able to read the non-official DVD.
I think you can correct me, since I really don't have knowledge about all the things about softmodding. But, for me, it really seens easier making the HD already softmodded before putting it in the X...
PS: sorry for my english, i know its poor. lol.

I saw! It's great... BUT, in my topic I'm thinking about a NON softmodded X... Like a original one, I was wondering a way to softmode the larger HD before putting it on the X. Can it be done?

Based on all knowledge I have over quite a period of time, I think I'd be safe to say "no" it can't be done.
If you place the OEM drive into a PC, the PC bios will be unable to unlock the drive, and the drive will not enter a “ready” state that the PC can deal with.
It should be also noted that if the drive were to be unlocked the PC would still not understand the drives formatting mechanism so it would still be unable to display its contents. Even imaging programs such as Norton Ghost will fail to read or duplicate the drive.

Pirrup,
One last question, the back up eeprom don't need to be from a softmodded X, right? Can it be from a retail disk?
Tks, I'll stop bothering you!
