Most 40gb maxtors will not work in an xbox.

Either way it was posted as working with config magic or a chip, so maybe try setting up the drive with a chip, then remove it once you get it formatted & ms dash loaded

alright, it seemed to have installed correctly according to the pc. when i put it in the xbox, it thinks and looks in the cd-rom for a cd, then later returns a 13 error code. Is this when i have to use the other tutorial on config magic to complete the setup. It copied the c and e files so shouldnt it just have to be plugged in and be ready to use? sorry for all the questions, I want to complete it so that I can put my pc and my xbox back together.....thanks guys

thats a dashboard problem. Make sure you put all the files in the right spot. I am not a softmodder but you may have to edit an ini file. Is the drive locked when you put it in your xbox?

I hear he is the softmodding king here, so he should be able to straighten you out pretty easily at this point.

ok, I put the C & E from my original HD (that I FTP to my PC) under \xboxhdm\linux. Then I swaped the eeprom file under from the original HD (e\backup_linux) and replaced it with the one in the xboxhdm (\linux\eeprom), it then asked if i Wanted to replace file, clicked yes, clicked make make-iso-win burnt it as a iso file with nero.....that is what I did to make the cd

make sure of the following.

1.- your C drive files are in linux/C folder, same for E:

2.- your hard drive that´s gonna be used with xbxhm 1.9 is on IDE 1, primary master, and that it supports the ATA security system so it can be locked.

3.- your eeprom must be named ¨eeprom.bin¨, and in the linux/eeprom folder.

4.- once you got xbxhm running, try to lock drive and unlock drives fist to see if the ATA security system is supported, if it it, unlock drive and reboot, after you can build xbox hard drive from scratch using option #1, and after you have it built, and has a C and E drives, with files, you lock the hard drive again, then put it on the new xbox.

i do it all the time without problems, some hard drives don´t like to be formated by xbxhm, but i format them on my chipped xbox, then locked with xbxhm.

one last thing, jumper settings i use. are, CD ROM, is either CS or MASTER, and for the hard drive is CS.

good luck.
