A friend of mine just got a Green Box and gave me his old one. He said that there was a mod chip installed, but it was loose and you could hear it when you shook the box.
Being a quasi-geek, I opened up the box and lo and behold, the rattleing sound was a loose screw [don't say it, it's too easy!]. That would indicate to me that the problems [some games would not run, the little light that was supposed to glow green when the chip was working always glowed red] may not have been in the installed mod chip.
My solution was to replace the mod chip. Can this be done? Or is one installation of a mod chip all you get?

hi Bishop234 and welcome to the xbox-hq.com community of friends..

Ok.. If you modchip is showing a RED LED when the xbox is turn on im sure you must have a SOLDIERLESS MODCHIP..

Probably either a Chameleon, Matrix, Xecutor 2.x modchip..

You can remove that modchip and install another if you choose.. Probably the easiest option too i reckon coz you dont know what modchip is installed..

So, YES you can go and buy another modchip to install it.. Or you could investigate what modchip is already FITTED and then try to fix it..

let us know how ya go.

Welcome, I hope we can get you to an aswer to get your xbox fixed. Very Happy

I've installed three chameleon solderless chips on different machines, the first two i did had blue flashing leds when they where working correctly, the last one had a red flashing led when it was working. To my knowledge, chameleons only had one led one them as mine have never flashed a different color and theres only one led cathod on it, so I think we can sratch out it being a chameleon mod chip. Also the chameleons all said chameleon on them as I dont believe they were ever cloned.

I know the matrix chip was cloned so it might have been blank, and I dont know about the xecuter solderless chips.

of the games that wouldnt run, where they on the hard drive or from the dvd drive? Because if they were from the hard drive, and others still worked from there, the chip should still be functioning. Also, does evox or whatever dashboard load when the xbox is turned on or does the MS dashboard load? If the evox dashboard loads then that is also a sing that the chip should still be working.

To answer your last questions, yes you can remove the current mod chip and install a new one, or you can fiddle with the current one and see if you can find where the loose screw came from and re fit everything.

Tell us a little bit more about the situation and we might be able to give you a little more help. Such as, was there any writting on either side of the mod chip, how many dip sitches does it have and anything else you can htink of. good luck
