If you really want this done and are hesitant about doing so, I can do the install for you.
I do a lot of machines for many members here, but if you really want to do yourself I can help you out as much as possible. Email me at sales@themodgod.com and I'll forward you my phone number. Then we can discuss what you should do first and such.
The X3 mod chip is NOT a good chip for beginners to install. It's more convoluted than most mod chips as far as installing and flashing. My prices are extremely reasonable and I would be more than happy to give you a quote. I can even configure your HD for you. There is no charge to configure your stock HD, or the larger HD unless you want some extras that I do. Then you are looking at an extra $20.00
We can discuss this more if you are interested.

What happened when you tryed the install? Some things are fixable and some are not.
If I could make a suggestion if you think the mobo is screwed. Contact the modgod. Buy a mobo off of him and send him your case and chip. This option is probaly cheaper then a new xbox. _________________ Xbox v1.3

This is why I said to get someone to do it for you... the X3 mod chip is not a great chip for a beginner...it just isnt. But, fact of the matter is, you may just be doing a config wrong too. Are you certain you screwed your mobo?
If so, dont fret...it's totally fixable. If the mobo cant be fixed it can defiitely be replaced for around $75.00 or so. Sure that's half the price of a new Xbox...but at least it's still HALF..lol. Beats buying a new one for 150.00
If you decide you are through with Xbox modding, let me know. Maybe I'll buy the toasted machine from you. Or, if you want it repaired I can help there too.
