hey guys , i want to put a 250 gb hd in my 1.6
problem is , what would be the best way to transfer all my files onto my new hd??
i have no space to ftp them onto my pc than back onto my new drive , i was thinking maybe there is an app that will let me format my hd with the partitions set up the way they need to be , than i could just ftp all my files from my xbox now than just swap them and use the xenium hd wizard??(1.6 , XENIUM ICE , EVOX DASH)

What you can do is clone your old HD right to the new HD. The Xenium Ice has the tools to do so.
Basically, you disconnect the IDE cable from your DVD Rom drive and connect that into the new HD. Make sure you have the jumper on the new HD set to slave.
Then, get a Y splitter so you can power up both HD's and hook those up for power.
Now, I have never done this, but I would imagine you would then use the format HD option in the Xenium Ice menu. Then, once you did that you would use the copy features.
Then once all the data is copied over to your slave drive do yourself a favor and unlock the old HD, the one you are replacing. Otherwise, it won't work in a PC or another Xbox down the road
Can you tell I've done that before! You don't know how many times I have removed a HD from an Xbox to use on another and then realize that I didn't unlock the damn thing.
Now, disco the IDE cables from both HD's and the new Hd that you just copied onto will now need the jumper changed to master. Put it in the tray and fire it up, see how she goes.
If I missed anything I am sure someone will ring in, I know a lot of people have done this before so someone probably knows a little more about it than I do.
I know that the Xenium Ice 2.0 OS only supported copying C, E, F, X, Y, Z so if you have a G and that version OS you may want to upgrade your OS to 2.2.1, I believe that is the latest.

thanks again jeff
one question however...
the tutorial says that he reccomends only cloning a drive thats the same size , since im going to be cloning bit for bit , he would expect problems if the 2 drives are different sizes...?

I'm not sure about that statement, because I know people have cloned the info from the stock HD to the larger HD.
That is why I was wondering if you would have to format it first, then copy the data over, or if you are copying a partion that means you are getting the size of the partition and all.
I wonder if it's possible to use Avalaunch to transfer the files from the slave to the master? That way you could format the new HD and use the AI to install all of your apps and emu's. Then use Avalaunch to xfer between the two.
Hopefully someone can add their opinion to this.

right , i would think either way would be sufficient , but im pretty sure i read a tutorial that said there was an application for the pc that you could use to format your HD with the FAT-X partitions THAN you would use the wizard to clone the old hd to the slave (upgrade). But as far as the drives being the same size or diff. , i thought it wouldnt make a diff because a kb is a kb and there the same size on a 40gb as they are on a 250gb , lol

Okay, we did not have. I did a search but only came up with the 2.0.1. update so I am uploading to the server now.
You will find it in the standard download section in the subsection called , "Development".
Once you have this downloaded you will burn it to disk using whatever programs you usually burn .ISO's with. This file is already an .ISO.
The disk method is the best way to update your bios and is what TeamXodus suggests.
To update, once it's burned to media your Xbox will read you will boot up your Xbox. Once you are at the main menu (Xenium OS) put the upgrade disk in the game tray and close.
Select recovery from the OS Menu. Your Screen will turn black and the Eject light will turn orange.
If you have a 1.0 to a 1.5 on your tv screen you would actually see a picture of a Xenium blue chip.
Once the disk is recognized the update will begin and your eject light will begin to flash red/green just like a frag. Don't be alarmed, do NOT turn off your xbox.
When the update is finished, the machine will shut down on it's own. If your machine sits there for several minutes just flashing orange then it is having difficulty getting the data from the disk.
You can try to disconnect the .IDE cable from the Hard Drive, but in most cases it's the brand of media or the way your burned the media.
Keep checking that download area for the OS, it should be available soon.

BTW, you will be downloading the .iso in a compressed file. It's a .rar file so you will need to use winrar or whatever program you use to unzip/unrar files.

Cool... Since I have never had to upgrade HD's like you are doing right now I never bothered to use that feature. I just wondered if you had to format the drive first, and then use the Wizard or if it formatted the drive with the Wizard too.
I'll look into that.
