Several months ago, I tried to unlock my xbox using the mechassault exploit. Unfortunatley it didn't go very well, and in an unfortunate rush to get it working again, I managed to find a tutorial on on using xboxhdm, unlocked the drive in the xbox, hot swapped it across to a PC, and chose the rebuild drive option. I got it to a stage where it would boot from a game quite happily, but booting from the HD gives an error21. I'm guessing that I've missed a step somewhere. I did manage to get a copy of the eeprom before i wiped it, so I can lock and unlock the drive quite happily, but apart from that I don't have much else.

I'm getting close to giving up on it, but if somebody could point me in the right direction on what I need to get/do to resurrect it, they'd be making me very happy.

Ok, a brief rundown of error 21:

Error 21
Error location: Anywhere
Typically means you're missing .dip files on your c: Drive or you have .xip's from a different (wrong) dashboard version. To fix simply restore a complete backup of the c: drive.

If you have a copy of the MS Dash, you could start a fresh with the box and avoid this error. If you used XboxHDM to rebuild and you still get the error, it may be the backup you took of your C: drive was already wrong.

Yes, I used xboxhdm to rebuild, so I'm guessing that the backup of the MS Dash was already broken. Is this recoverable ?

Yes. You can get yourself a fresh copy of the ms dash. That should solve any potential corruption problems you may have had with the old one.

I'm not sure but I should I overwrite the contents of xboxhdm\linux\ndure\C with the MS Dash ? or should it go in xboxhdm\linux\ndure\E\ndts\files\C ?

or habe I got it completely wrong and its meant to go somewhere else ?

i dont mean to steal your page but i think i did almost the same thing.i cant access anything after check point in splinter cell. when the disc is out i get an error 21.i started to do the sid 5 install until the power flickered right after it said i must restart without the came.
