xbox+x2pro - hd upgrade?

Hi and good day to you all,

I am very new and a little lost in the xbox scene.
The problem is the following;

I have acquired a second-hand xbox with an xecuter2 pro chip together with outboard switch bank.
The reason i bought this is because of the fact that i wanted to watch all my divx's and play on my emulators from one central box.

So i received it in the mail this week, and it worked out of the box, had xbmc and evolution-x installed along with some games and thing.
However, it had the standard 10gig hd... This was unacceptable, so i decided to buy an upgrade. I bought a WD 500GB 16MB (7200/100) WD5000AAKB which is now lying about in my room, waiting to be installed.

So what i'm asking for is the least painful way to upgrade my harddisk in the xbox? How do i go about this with the xecuter 2? Do i have to format in a certain way to prevent corrupt files? Will a 500gig HD even work with an x2?(the seller told me it was an x3 so i checked for compatibility and bought this HD, however the xbox turned out to be an x2 mod, painful) Will i need a boot cd for sure or can i tweak the xecuter to format it for me? What sort of BIOS should i use?...

As i said i'm a total noobhat when it comes to modding an xbox. I hardly knew where to start until yesterday.

FYI i'm connected through LAN/HTTP to my xbox.

I know the info is available scattered around the forums but i thought it more efficient to ask the pro's directly. Or maybe someone has gone through the same process as i'm about to.

I hereby thank you very sincerely in advance!
-sikey

Welcome to the xbox-hq man, you came to the right place.

You will need a boot disk for sure and the best out is made by DJB who happens to be a member of this site.
The disk you will need is the aid 4.20 disk and you can download it here: http://www.aidtracker.com/
The download has a full guide on how to burn it to disk and set it up.

If you get all the addons applied right it will have all the apps you will need to get the HDD running as long as it is a compatale HDD and you can check for that here: http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_HardDrives

Once you have all that you can upgrade the bios to the newest build with the flash bios option in advanced settings on the aid disk, any X-2 bios should work fine.

Once you have that you can run the xbox partitioner App to install the HDD with this guide here: http://www.teamxodus.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=15568 since the HDD is so big you will want to use an F and G drive with the 32k cluster setting so your files dont corrupt.

I hope this helps you get started and good luck, if you need more help then thats what we are for. Wink

well my xbox is paralysed...

I burned a cd with AID, and it didn't load. i flipped the modchip switch to red and it didn't load either.. i thought the dvd was bad so i burned it again. same thing happened.

I decided to re-check the documentation of AID. It said use an "original" bios. I downloaded the original xbox.bin from #xbins, flashed it using evo-x and now my box is just hanging on startup.

i tried using a working bios i had left on my X2 using the flip switches but due to earlier attempts they all seem to be corrupt.

what did i do wrong and how do i fix it?

thanks in advance...

Wow thats not good at all, with a bad bios on all banks you might need to use a programmer to reflash the banks. Sad

does the following reasoning make any sense?

Is it possible that my xbox couldn't read dvd+r? (as opposed to dvd-r) and that was the cause for AID not loading?
And yes my bioss is f***ed, but when i flick the modchip to the OFF position my xbox will startup with a harmless error 16.

Am i correct in thinking that if i burn a dvd-r and boot it while bypassing the modchip it would boot up and start AID instead of the error 16?

Right now i don't have any dvd-r available so i'm just brainstorming here...

suggestions?
(btw what is this programmer to flash the banks you talk of?)

DVD-r is the best way to go and most of the time if the xbox runs fine but wont read a burn disk its due to a bad burn or wrong format.

If you get the stock MS dash to run, with out the chip it wont read the boot disk.

I wold not get it from this site but here is an example of a programmer: http://www.xbox-modchips.com/x2programmer.htm

oh this is hardware we're talking about....
i've spent enough cash as it is i'm afraid. 80€ for the xbox and 100€ for that new HD.

so if i understand you correctly, if i bypass my mod chip the AID disc will never load?

oh dear....
