I am not happy at this point. The LIE is, according the Manual in pdf format that is unpacked with AID 4, that all you have to do is unpack the files add the list of files given in order. I have burned 3 DVDs and neither my computer nor my XBOX will read them! I have burned them in 8 speed and 4 speed to no avail! Naturally, I followed the advice of the manual and used DVD Decrypter 3.51 as it is given when you unpack the files. Obviously the manual is WRONG! There must be a setting you need to check in DVD Decrypter or something that is not mentioned.

I would appreciate some help.

I am using TDK DVD+R 8x. I always use them and have found them to be the most reliable of any. I may have some -Rs. However, something bothers me with the instruction manual.

"Auto-Installer Deluxe v4.0 Official Users Manual Page 5 of 51
Features of the Auto-Installer
Here is a list of features that the auto-installer covers:
• Boots on a modded or soft-modded Xbox. Modchip users must be using a proper BIOS (NOT Cromwell/Linux) and Softmod users must have already installed their Softmod before attempting to launch this.
• Install Complete Softmod and MS Dash setups with either PBL or NKpatcher for the Softmod. Requires booting of Softmod Installer Deluxe first in order to use this (Xboxes with Modchips should not bother about this feature)."

Does this mean that you have to the complete Softmod installed on your Xbox hard drive BEFORE you can even boot the AID 4 disk? If so, WHY did they not include it in the AID 4 image disk? I do not understand.

Mr. Terrific

Okay. Does this mean that your PC should not be able to read the burnt disk either? My PC can not read either of them and I burnt 3!

Idea

At this junture neither. I am awaiting the Xenium Gold chip I ordered yesterday. I dismantled my X-Box and removed the jewel, no thanks to the Jewel Removal faq. It took alcohol instead of soap and water. Anyway, I am simply preparing for Monday or possibly Tuesday, when the chip should arrive. I also have a Ver. 1.0 X-Box motherboard. Xenium claims you do not need to "solder" anything. LIE! You must de-solder the contacts on the Ver. 1.0 board or the chip will not be able to be installed! To myself and I am sure others, desoldering is soldering! You must still use the soldering gun to desolder. Naturally, I have to purchase equipment for that.

Why is it that people versed in IT mechanics can not simply explain EVERYTHING instead of missing crucial information? I have a somewhat extensive IT background but it is not in software design or language. Yet, when people come to me and ask questions, I try to explain in depth what they need to know.

I need to relax. Thank goodness I am not 350 pounds and woofing down a plate of bacon now.

Sad

Thanks for you help. As for the softmod, I am not going to do that. The chip was ordered and I will install it. It is a somewhat simple job. My other X-Box was my first and original. It will be kept as is.

For future reference to anyone else reading this topic, you do need to have either a softmod or a modchip before you can go on to using A.I.D.

The burnt DVDs are usually unreadable if the ISOs were meant to run on an Xbox, and will not run on an unmodded Xbox because Microsoft's anti-piracy system designed to stop people running illegal copies of their games.

When you run the DVD from a different dashboard (e.g. EvolutionX) it should work fine

If your ISO is under 650MB, burning it to a CD-RW instead will save you a bit of money on DVDs.

If you wish to install a softmod, I personally recommend the Splinter Cell savegame exploit, of which further information can be found in the tutorials section / A.I.D. documentation.

I have used the saved game exploit to softmod my box. The main dashboard is now EvoX. I also copied via FTP, XBMC and currently run it as an app, but am considering using it as a dashboard. I like however, the ability in EvoX to rip a game disk. I really want to use the AID disk however to get other stuff on my system such as emulators, etc. I have burned the AID4 ISO on several different media including CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD+R. When placed in the Xbox, the system tries to read it before saying that the drive is empty. I have a Thomson drive in my box, should I be using some other media? Is there some trick I missed in the documentation to get the disk read? Thanks in advance for any clues.

Yes, it is just the AID disk it will not read. I can boot regular XBox game disks... and to test it out, I was able to boot and play backup disks too after the soft-mod and loading the game from the dashboard.
