Crazy Taxi 3: High Rollers Published by: Jeff McCloy on 2004-04-26 Page Views: 7610 Rating: 6/10
Ever since the Sega Dreamcast, Hitmaker's Crazy Taxi has been one of the wildest and most addictive game franchises yet. With simple game play, wild and out of control fun, and just about everything else, Crazy Taxi became both an arcade and console hit. Hitmaker then brought Crazy Taxi 2 to the Sega Dreamcast, which added a New York based level with four new cabbies, keeping the game play intact. Now, the third incarnation of the Crazy Taxi franchise has hit stores for the Xbox. CT3 is both a new game and a redux version of the first two Dreamcast games, so newcomers and veterans of Crazy Taxi will find wild fun in CT3, with one major problem: it's more of the same.
Like CT2, Crazy Taxi 3 offers four new drivers and a brand new course. The four drivers are Angel, Bixbite, Ms. Venus, and Zax. Unfortunately, most of these characters have little or no personality or skill variation, so basically your cabbie choice comes down to personal preference. The new course is known as the Glitter Oasis, which is a mock version of Las Vegas. This entertaining course shows off lots of nice graphical touches with its glittering lights and tons of traffic. There is also a nice desert area in the back of the Oasis, which you'll definitely want to check out as well.
There are several flaws and problems with CT3. While Crazy Taxi 3 is a lot of fun like its predecessors, it adds nothing substantialy new to the series. The graphics are really nothing new, and are actually Dreamcast quality, plus there are inexcusable slowdowns in some parts of the game. There just isn't enough new stuff to make this game worth owning. It's definitely a renter.
