Hi I'm a newbie at softmoding but can't wait to give it a try.
I'm looking for help to unpack the Auto-Installer 2.0 and update package that I recently downloaded.
The deluxe 2.0 packaage contains 12aid20 winrar files all 48.829kb and one 12aid winrar file at 36.908kb, do all these files have to extracting to one folder?
I tried to use the Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.iso file in side one of the 12aid20 files and it comes up with a note pad style info as if I'm unpacking the files incorrectly.
I do not see the Auto installer box as shown in the manual.
Can anyone be of assistance.

hi lodgey,
it sounds like you dont have WINRAR installed onto your pc.
You need to have winrar installed so you can EXTRACT the .iso file from inside all those .rar files you talked about earlier.
Once you use winrar to extract the .iso from inside the .rar files you can then burn the .iso to a DVD-R or CDRW using NERo ro DVDDECRYPTER and boot in your xbox..
If you trying to softmod you need only the SID files which are in the /tools/ or /extras/ folder in the AID2 extracted folder..
Sounds like you need to do some reading too.. Here is the best site for information.. Print it out and read with a coffee.. you have to understaqnd what you are doing before you go and wreck your xbox.

Thanks for advice, this is what I've worked out so far:
Have extracted an AID20 folder to desktop with winrar
opened the aid20 folder - autoin-staller deluxe 2.0.xb - tools - aid 2.0 iso updater
selected the aid 2.0 iso file from auto installer 2.0.xb folder.
selected rar file(update file) to use from the non extracted auto-installer deluxe v2.02 update folder.
Have received message - extracting rar(files) - Done - Creating new iso file - update done.
The new file is a 758.894 kb iso file.
I'm thinking that this iso is now fine to burn but what happens if I install the game saves and insert the disc but the iso image isn't complete or corrupt in some way.
I have done a little reading but certainly some more would be of great help.
Have obtained the following items to help.
smart - joy cable for xbox controller to connect to pc
cross over cable
action replay
splinter cell original
xbox control drivers
Auto - installer 2.0 + updates

Great. That means you are ready nearly ready to install the softmod..
The update went fine as you would have received errors otherwise.
No you need to burn the AID/SID to a DVD-R/CDRW.
Dont forget you need to copy the HACKED GAME SAVES TO YOUR XBOX MEMORY CARD TOO.
apart from that you should be ready to go..

Your tutorial is just what I've been looking for except I jumped the gun.
The most confusing part to start with is the torrent file I downloaded.
They contain heaps of the same aid20 files all the same size bar one.
I just didn't have a clue where to start, so I just extracted the first on the list.
So it's not necessary to have the updates installed, I thought it may had fixed a few previous problems with Auto -Installer 2.0?
So there is no need to extract any of the other folders other than the original aid20 as they are for a modded xbox(bios) and additional language ect is that right?
I'm a little while away from making the big dive so I just need to make everthing as clear as possible before I proceed.
Your help is much appreciated.

dbl click the .rar or .01 and when it opens up in winrar select everything inside and pick "Extract To" and select a palce to save it. it will go through all those archives automaically

Just read a forum posted on the 07/Jul/2005 -xbox versions and dash
I'm a little confused because I thought that AID2 has the latest 5960 MS Dash so why the need to update before the install.
I have noted on other tutorials they also recommend to update dash, but they where not using AID2.
If it needs updating do I have to go live to do it.
Another thing do I need to remove all game saves or only the saves from the 3 mentioned games s/c, Mech and 007
