I bought a pre-modded Xbox with an huge hard drive, an xecutor2 chip and a whole bunch of programs about a year ago, and somewhere along the way, the M$ dashboard got updated by one of the games, so I get an error message (21?) whenever I try to access the M$ dashboard, or start the system up with a audio CD in the drive.

From reading the tutorial and other posts, I think I understand that I can use the AID disc to reinstall the M$ dashboard, as well as update the other dashboards and whatever programs on on the drive. Is that right?

What I'm worried about is the games and saves I have saved on the hard drive already. Will those be safe as long as I don't reformat the drive? Will I be OK without reformatting?

Having bought it pre-modded, I'm not exactly fluent on where everything is on the partitions. Does the disc walk you through it pretty easily, or will it take a while to find the right place for everything?

THanks in advance!

You can always back up the game saves (which I recommend) but yes you are correct, no format means no erase and gamesaves will be intact.

Thanks for the info! I've never backed up my Xbox before, but I just read through the tutorial on backing up gamesaves, and it looks pretty straightforward. So I'll give it a shot!
