Was planning on buying a HD that someone was selling, and was just wondering if the type of hard drive mattered? All I see people talking about are Maxtor. Could I use a Samsung.

Also, could I keep my original HD in the XBOX with the new one? I know I'll have to buy a power splitter, but the main question is if they will fit. Thanks to whoever answers my delema. Very Happy

Basically any normal PC IDE Hard Drive can be used in your xbox.. If you have a look here in our xbox hdd database you can see some brands that DO lock etc:

Xbox Lockable HDD Database:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_HardDrives

This list should give you a rough idea of what works and what doesnt.. Its only new but you will find most pc hdd's lock fine..

Yes you can but you will have to put a switch in it to switch between the 2 x hdd's... Or,

you could buy whats called xbox 'xtender'.. Smile It sits on the top of your xbox and allows you to have up to 3-4 drives i think..

heres a link:
Xtender Case mod:

hope that helps bro,

Hi,

personally i have never added another hdd to my xbox only upgraded my existing one and really it is a waste of time especially when you could just upgrade your exisitng hdd to 200gb++

why do you want to put in another hdd? Are you going to be running LINUX or something..

i think you best bet would be to buy a xtender if you are going to do this as you really dont seem to have much of a idea about how the xbox ide works.

yeah u need a switch its really a waste of time lol ..... ive done it just to see how it works lol was fun doing tho lol.....

if u have free time go ahead its really easy...
Round IDE Cable
Power Extension Cable
thats all u need

but like Forahobby said why not just add a 160gig Razz its better lol and not ugly Razz

IMO one original drive plus one upgraded drive with a switch would be perfect for those who are looking at a pure softmod only solution. You still have the ability to play with a modded box and a pure box (for those live games without getting banned...unless there is another better workaround).

OK, so if I just replace it, how would I go about doing it. I know how to install it physically, but would I just install it then run an auto installer? I've got a Xenium, so if I boot the XBOX up with a new HD, would I still get a Xenium startup screen?

Thanks for your patience, you guys are the best.

EDIT: To get games onto this HD, I just ftp the single iso into my F/Games folder? Or do I have to do something with the iso in order to have a .xbe file?

If you have a xenium ice the just download the "Ice Guide" that you can find somewhere around here. It will spell out exactly how to swap a HDD.
