Are you refering to connecting the softmodded(non-working) HDD to the chipped box to repair the HDD?
I wouldn't try it, but its just a matter of connecting the IDE from the chipped to the softmodded after pulling the softmodded IDE when the drives been unlocked.
sorry bout the double post, silly hitman, ive sacked the hotswap btween two xboxes an am going with the pc method, im having to do it blind, i can get xboxhdm to detect the drive but i get a message saying the drive is locked and that some functions of xboxhd will be disabled, when is the correct time to unplug the ide cable from the hdd? ive read somewhere you do it when the led turns red an somewhere else says just before it turns red, any thoughts, TIA _________________ XBOX v1.6

There are a couple theories on exactly when it happens. You can try unplugging the IDE for the DVD drive, that sometimes leaves the HDD unlocked.
Personally, I like to listen for the HDD to start clicking and then pull. I've gotten it on my second try before, and the next it took me 30 tries. But keep tring, it should work eventually _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

still having a hard time getting the timing right, i have booted the box up on my tv and get error 11, thats cool, take it back to the pc to do hotswap, unplug the ide from hdd when i hear the first click, second click, before led turns red, after, every way i can think of, xboxhd detects hdd on primary master hda but then it starts to fill the screen with error messages that flash past so quick i cant read them then it takes me to the page where u put in xboxhd as login after which it tells me it has detected the drive but it is locked, please help _________________ XBOX v1.6

i have managed to successfully hotswap, took a while, everythnig seems to go great, choose option 1 to build hdd from scratch, but then when it comes to mounting the files from the xboxhd disc it says invalid argument, then says done, when i hook xbox up to telly, i get error 7, which is a pretty serious error, any thoughts guys?

Did you include the replacement dash files in your xboxhdm disc? that usually the problem.
