I was wondering if the Samsung laser it self would fit the thompson drive if I wanted to replace the laser alone.

AFAIK the lasers are not interchangable

oh I see. Well which really is the best drive for reading almost all media types? I curently have a thomson drive. I was thinking of replacing the laser, or getting a entirely new drive. I've read mixed reviews on all drives.

Samsung is theoretically the best one, though I've never had a problem with any drives excpet a thompson which had a broken gear.
