I have recently softmodded my XBox using the SID 4.5 Ndure patch. (Badass I might add, thanks knave!). I backuped a game and it works excellent.

I just know dvd's are going to start getting costly, so I would like to upgrade the hard drive. The tutorials seem pretty straight forward, but what ide interface do the xbox's use?

Does the xbox run on an ATA 100?

I may be worried about nothing, but will ATA133 work with an ATA100 system?

Also, would the 'box support a 300gb drive?

Oh yeah, and how do I know if a HDD is lockable?

search this site and you'll find a HDD database informing drives that are lockable/unlockable (in other peoples experiences)

a 300Gb disk will be fine. You can either have F or F and G drive. Use Xbox HDM to setup the drive up for you. Backup ur EEPROM too as you need that for Xbox HDM to lock the HDD

ATA100/133 no problem. As long as the drive has 40 pin IDE interface and not SATA it will be just fine. Some people swear by having an ATA133 IDE cable as well, but i never use one personally Wink

Excellent. Thanks for the help.

I browsed the compatability list and just picked up a Seagate 300gb 7200 hdd with a 16mb cache. for 89.99 after a $50 mail in rebate from CC. Got a torx10 and 20 as well.

It should serve me well.

Ill let you guys know how it went.
