Posted: Tue Mar 21, 2006 6:34 pm Post subject: Help!!! Non-Moded Xbox Problems
Here's the deal, I'm a noob at this "Moding the Xbox" Deal and thus need a lot of help. I bought an Xbox off my friend for 50 bucks (Can) the only deal is that the DVD Drive is total fryed, It will work sometimes after like 5-10 ejects. Any way I had the drive ripped apart and was looking to see what was the problem, So I had the drive opened up and the xbox running, Then a bunch of stuipd thing started to happen. First off, Some how I triped the breaker, thus turning off the xbox, then i did it agin. When I started it up it had a 06 error, which ment that I scrwed up the hard drive by not letting it shut down, Then I gave up hope and tryed and failed to turn it in to a computer drive, but now my xbox gives me a code 16, which means it can unlock it but, the drive has been formated, so I need to reinstall the dash board and Partion the hard drive. I can hop swap and I will soon have the AID Disk. So if any one can help, PLEASE DO!!!

You're on the right path to recovery, so don't panic. Personally I'd huck that 8 gig POS drive and get a new fat ass hard drive. Get a chip and rock the box!

It sounds lke the drive is just dirty inside. If you open the drive cover and use a paper clip to eject the tray,then use Canned Air to blow out all of the dust-bunnies, then make sure that the tray rails are LIGHTLY lubricated with lithium grease. After that I'll bet the drive will work fine. _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

The lens in the drive is scratched, I have it total taken apart, what happend is my friend droped it and bent the top down, then when he played games on it, the top pushed down on the disk and scrached the laser, I have used glass cleaner on it (More stupid things I have done ) And it still works like uh... "Crud" So the drive is hope less.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. What kind of drive is it? If it's a Samsung it may be worth replacing the Laser. The 605B is a very good drive, and you can find Lasers for them in several places. _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Fixxing the laser would not be worth while, The Drive case is so bent, it would last maby, a week before it gives up again, The case is so screwed up! The drive also totaled a Game disk. Any way I will most likely take up on what Shark2th said, I will pick Up a mod chip, new DVD drive, and (AT LEAST!) a 40 GB drive! But that will take a while, so is there any way to soft mod an xbox with just a PC?

Not really. Do you have your own xbox? if you do, here is what I suggest:
Pull the DVD drive out of your xbox and drop it into your friends. Assuming that you have everything needed, drop in your softmod game and proceed with there. Once you have the hardrive loading the hacked dashboards, you can put the bad DVD drive back and not use it.
From there you can upgrade the HD and copy game files directly over FTP so you can still play xbox games, or you can play emulators, use XBMC with streaming video, etc. Makes it usable until the drive is replaced at least. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Actually, yes there is BUT, it's old. if you get Xbox HDM 1.9 and the UDE 2 exploit, you can do it on a PC with those.
BTW ... A while ago I heard rumors about a "HotSwap Installer DeLuxe" disk, but I haven't seen that around yet ... I've been waiting very patiently. (Foot tapping loudly!) _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Yeah, Nknave's H.S. Installer.
I actually prefer doing a HotSwap with all new files because, it gets gets rid of those pesky little glitches that can occur when you do an "upgrade".( M$ products just LOVE it when people UpGrade them!) _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!
