You exactly answered my question so I painted before installing the LED's. I meant to say that I drilled the hole not hold. I chose to frost the jewel (sand the paint off giving it a frosted look) Here is the top painted.

Thanks. I learned some things.

If your not painting the vents on the side, mask them off on both sides. The overspray got under the lid and left a dusting on them. It wiped off fine, but masking would have been easier.

I used Krylon Fusion Paint for plastic. It does look good. I was in a dusty building and some dirt got into my paint. It still looks good.

Next step is the fron panel. The look I want will be hard - may wife may use her scrap booking supplys to make stickers that will mask off what I want masked.
