Okay, so whats happening is, im downloading a freeware homebrew program and view the readme (im new to xbox's) and what happens it it tells me all the installation guide blahblahblah and then at the bottom it says something about copying a .xbe file or something. Whats all this about?
A few thing i want to transfer over through FTP are Emulators/Roms etc (F:\Emulators folder) and i also want to install StepmaniaX (unpack on PC then FTP directory over to whichever drive) but with StepmaniaX i think i may need to do something with a .xbe?
Im unsure so if someone could fill me in on all this i would be greatful and as i said before, im new to xbox's.
P.S: I posted this on Xbox-Scene and got no help at all so any helphere would be great.

Ah yes, X-S. What a helpful group of individual they are. Targeted to newbies (more like targeting) and the whiniest jerk for a leader that I've ever had the misfortune of reading temper tantrums he posts all by his little self.

You had a question about the xbe. There was a time (and still is) where you would "patch" the game to allow it to work on a hdd. That being said, quix does it for you OR if it's on a dvd then simply use DVD2Xbox and let it do all the work so all you'd do is play.
May the force be with you padawan. Before you know it, you'll go from noob to mentor in no time.
I have lots that have graduated the Xbox-hq school of higher learning.
Better than getting the following from X-S! (The Xbox Nazi's)
So basically your saying im better off using Qwix than Filezilla etc?
Basically all i wanted was the games to be shown on the menu (evoX dash) so im guessing Qwix will do this for me?

I know for a fact that DVD2Xbox will. I'll have to research before I make that claim for Quix, but Quix does auto patch, so if I hazard a very dangerous guess, I'd say yes. That's a guess not a fact without research though. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Yup, Qwix has a "Patch XBE" button on it. Will that change my menu so the games are displayed? Or should i edit my evox.ini?

Sticking neck way out... I know the patch allows the file to run without the disk and if it's anything like DVD2Xbox, it should also update the games menu on the dash.
If I'm wrong, then edit. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Let's see if this makes sense.
1.- a game to be added automaticly by a dashboard must be in default.xbe for it's loader.
So if it should be in this form. \drive\games\game name\default.xbe
\drive\ be like E:\ or F:\ or G:\
\games\ is a folder called games and where your games will be in.
\game name\ well, of course it's the name of the game, in this case it's StepmaniaX v5.
\default.xbe, thik of setup.exe or game.exe on windows, and it's the main executable, so if you don't have a default.xbe you can't run game, or you might have another name for it, then you must rename to default.xbe.
Qwix, C-xboxtool and other tools allows you to apply certain way of a patch, but if this is homebrew, all you do is ftp to your xbox, as homebrew will run off the hdd by nature, and from discs most of the time.
DVD2Xbox is the best tool to copy an original game to your xbox hdd, since it will take care of all the patching needed for the game to run flawlessly from your hdd, without having issues of not being on a disc, or legimet flags.
So Qwix and other tools have nothing to do with your dashboard adding game/app/emulator, or anything your menu.
It's all in the config file.
If it's evox, your file to see is "evox.ini"
If it's for Unleash X, then it's "Config.xml"
You can open these files in Notepad and see what the path directories to scan for stuff is, but by default, it should be like this.
Games
path=E:\games
path=F:\games
path=G:\games (this is a maybe)
same for Apps, it will be DRIVE:\apps, and emulators.......well, you get the idea.

Just going through the xbox menu and realised it hasnt got dvd2xbox, its only got XBCOPY.
XBCOPY got so far through and wouldnt copy the roms, could this be because the filenames could be to long?
