I'm new to the scene and love what I see, thanks to all those who make this site what it is.
My question is this. Does anyone out there have a seagate st3200822a HDD that has been succesfully locked?? I've tried all that I know how to do and have had no luck. I'm new at this and don't know a whole lot, all I know is I've read from a few peoples lists that they have the same hard drive that has been successfully locked before, but how????
I'm trying not to rip my hair out figuring out how to mod my xbox. All I want to do is download some games onto my hard drive so I can have more games, I don't play xbox live or anything else....
Is that too much to ask????
thanks to anyone who can help a clueless VIP member

I have no idea what version i have, i didn't know you had to have a phd to figure out how to make all these things come togher to work properly. I know i need to sit down and read all these forums to see whats goin on, its just aggravating the amount of time thats needed to make this work, all i want is to be able to copy some games to my hd. one question is whats the difference between a dashboard and a bios? do i need to have a dashboard?
thanks for any help

Welcome Chucky!

We'll get you hooked up... I've modded 3 Xboxs and NONE have gone smoothly.

OK, to answer a few of your questions, the BIOS is the software you need to install into your modchip to get it to do all the neat things you need. The dashboard is the software you install on the hard drive. It's the software you use to launch games, play movies, FTP to/from your PC.

First step: Lean back in your chair and take a deep breath!

Second step: You need to install a modchip... your signature indicates you have a Xenium Ice. Is it installed properly? If so, good! If not, let us know if you need help!

Third step: Flash the modchip... you need to install the BIOS in order for it to do anything. I don't have a Xenium, but others do and can help you if that's a problem. Your signature indicates no BIOS, so I guess that's where we're at!

Fourth step: You need to get the EvolutionX (EvoX) dashboard installed on your hard drive. This can be done with an auto-installer available on this website. This software can also format your hard drive (I think your Xenium has a built-in operating system that can format the hard drive), and, hopefully, lock it. I think having the hard drive locked will only be important if you want to go on Xbox Live. The auto-installer will also install software you need for backing up your games to the hard drive, play DVDs, etc.

Cant tell you how much i appreciate the help, this site is much better than any other i've encountered. I do thank you.
I have installed the chip and hard drive succesfully on the x-box, version I'll figure out sometime. The chip went well but I do have an extra wire what looks to be a thin led maybe and a usb adapter, can i just stick that into the chip and then allow it to connect through the computer through that? or do i have to use my ethernet hook up?
It installed the OS 2 from Xenium on there which is very nice and user friendly. it locked and unlocked the old hard drive perfectly, I have a segate 200 gig in there now that I formated through the xenium program which i thought was successful untill i tried to lock it, it won't lock through the OS 2 that i'm using and am sure it works because other people have gotten it to lock from what i have read. Now i can still run the OS2 but the retail kernell won't work it comes up with an error 5.
So my first step is to what? install a evoX bios and a few other dashboards to help me out? which evox should i download? which dashboards?
I have a million other questions but should probably start there for now and see if i can't at least get that far.

Xbox-HQ rocks, thanks you guys
once i play my first game from hd i'll be one happy man
Charles

You're welcome. That's what I like about it, too. There are a few here (you know who you are) who wouldn't give you a Band-Aid if you're hemorrhaging to death, but the vast majority of members will give you the shirt off their backs!

Is this important to you? As long as I keep my Xbox plugged in, I don't really need to go to the MS dashboard. If you DO need to set time (if you unplug it or lose power for several hours), why not just pop in the old hard drive?

Error 5, as I suspect you know, is the HDD Unlocked error message.

Sounds to me like installing the BIOS is your next step. My understanding is the Xenium Ice lets you flash via FTP, but I can't tell you how to do that. You can also do it by CD-RW. Which DVD drive do you have.... Samsung, Phillips, or Thomson? I can probably walk you through the CD-RW flashing process. You'll need to look under the "configuration" option in the Xenium OS main menu. I'd use BIOS 4983.06 because that's what RealMcCloy ("The Iceman") uses... he's a big Xenium Ice geek & he's my hero!

After this is done, get an autoinstaller. If you use the Xbox-HQ autoinstaller, you can choose your dashboard... I'd recommend EvoX Dashboard 3935, once again, because that's what "The Iceman" uses.

I'm sure you do! I'm learning, too... I'm down to having thousands of questions, but I used to have millions!

Going to the retail kernell is important, isn't that the only way I can play games and DVD'S from the actual CD itself? Or is there another way to do that?

No, you can play them with the hacked BIOS, also.

That, and to set the internal clock (maybe a few other minor things- none really come to mind, though).

No problem.... if you CAN still boot up ok with the retail HDD with the chip OFF, you can always set the clock or go on XBL should you need to!

So far the only people that have been unsuccessful locking that HD have had a 1.6...

I found two records on the 1.6, both failed. I found about twenty or so records on that HD with other xbox versions and they all locked fine. They used programs ranging from Config Magic, to Evox, to the Xenium Ice OS.

Unfortunately, I really don't know what to tell you. You can always try various methods...maybe you'll get it to work. Without running the machine with the HD locked you will not be able to enjoy xbox live.

let me know if you have any questions..

I'm not sure that will be a problem....

I had a similar problem, but caused by my stupidity rather than a hardware problem. I just put in the original HDD and turned off the chip... won't that work for him?

alright i'm back from indy and anxious to play around with my xbox.

I just downloaded a evox bios, but can't tell what version i'm downloading. I went in the vip dowloads and under bios i found EvolutionX V2.5 E-Boot

I also got my ftp working and can use that with flashfxp no problem.

So I download the bios and get it on the xbox and when i try to flash it all it says is file doesn't fit! not sure what that means.

Am I using the wrong bios?? where can i find the one you recomended??

Thanks again!
