I recently bought an xbox off ebay basically to play some of the game I'd played in the past at freinds houses with the wife *I can't let her near my pc*lol. The person who sold it said it was modded but didn't know if it was chipped or soft modded.
It seems to have a very old dashboard on it as it is an early xbox and it has options for applications etc. The dilema I have is I want to install a bigger Hard drive to it and also install XBOX Media centre. I currently have it connected to my oc with no issues whatsoever. What I want is to be able to connect a large hard disc. When trying to do this it loads the screen telling you you need your xbox looked at by technical support (or something similar). As soon as I put the original hard disk in it, it then boots to a XBox-HQ.com dashboard and I can do what ever I want as before.
Even when the dashboard is loaded I cannot ever go back to the original MS dashboard due to the techical support error screen as mentioned before.
Is there anyway I can get the xbox to let me install the larger hard drive etc or shall I just throw it out of the window and let the wife on my pc..lol
I'll try and answer soem questions now.
1) If I hold the power button for a certain abotu of time does it go back to the original mode....... Answer no, just boots the dvd or goes to the dashboard.
2) Possible age of dashboard. Haven't a clue, guess is 2004.. When I open the ini file it has this line Xbox-Hq Skin #002 Designed by DJB on 3rd April 2004
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have seen what can be done with the xbox and if I can get the little brick to do it for me then all would eb well..

I've had problems with eBay hardware/computer things before. One time I baught an old laptop off of eBay and the hard drive cable snapped. I never buy anything off of eBay.. I suggest you go to GameStop or EB Games and buy a used xbox off of them, unmodded, then mod it yourself, it'll be much easier than dealing with eBay stuff. I have had very bad experiences with eBay computer parts and consoles, so that was a bad choice you made.
