Thanks for reading my post. Please I need help because I am a NOOB! I soft modded my xbox with aid 2.11 which updated to 3.0 with the upgrader program. It worked fine. I used the Mechassualt exploit, Mechassualt Game and Action Replay to do the soft mod.
I did backup my HDD with the installer because I can not ftp into my box, no chip. When I tried to restore my HDD, because I am an idiot, I received an error and now I get error 13 on bootup, problem with dashboard. I can still put in a game and the xbox will play it but no bashboard.
I tried to put in a live game because I heard that would update my dash but everytime I choose the live option on various games the xbox basically reboots and tries to go to MSDash to launch LIve but of course it is not there and just boots up the game again.
I have tried putting the original iso back in but that doesn’t work because no Linux and I can’t do that process again because when I put in Mechassault game in the box it doesn’t recognize any saves on the xbox or my memory card.
I do have the eeprom.bin file, I know the unique HDD password and I have downloaded an original MSDashboard with a C drive folder. However, as I said I am a NOOB and don’t really know what I am doing so if you are someone you know can help me with some suggestions on or how to make what I have work.
How can get my original xbox hd or dash to original state Or if I can get back to my softmod or installer or something other than error 13. I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks, Steve

I forgot to mention that I already tried a hotswap. I booted xbox and removed IDE cable before game loaded and hooked up to my PC running XP. I got the balloon saying that it recognized the drive but I could not see it in my computer or dos. I went to drive management and it said the drive is working fine but I can not see it. I realize it is because it is not fat 32 or NTFS but I am a NOOB. Any suggestions. Thanks a million.

13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.
The error it gives is because of the incompatibility between the (older) dashboard (4920) that older slayer cd installs and the new dashboard/kernel versions found in some new xbox's and found in xbox's that have been connected to xbox live (when you go on xbox-live, it'll upgrade your dashboard file to i believe it is now 5659.03. This dasboard is incompatible with the dash that (old) slayer cd installs (for example 2.5 or lower) for you.
(In detail, in the eeprom chip there is a kernel which is incompatible with the dashboard (4920) that slayer installs.)
So what do you do to fix it? You can use the dashupdate found on most new xbox games! Be sure to 1st unplug your ethernet cable before you do so!!!
Besides that, just use a good installation disc and all is fine. Use a 2.6 slayer or something similar
Try reinstalling the MS dash 5960 through the AID disc.

First of all, throw out that aid disk, You have to make a new one, by the sounds you updated it totally wrong, forget about aid 2.11 just download aid 3.0 and the 3.04 update pack, thats all you need.
And you did hotswap totally wrong as well, you have to remove all harddrives in your computer before attempting hotswap, you also need to make a xboxhdm disk, the xbox harddrive uses FATX so windows wont read it at all as you found out. Click on my sig for pirrups tutorial on hotswapping. _________________

Slayers is out dated, do not use that disk, you will be unhappy with that disk for its limited capabilitys _________________

Thanks
hoyas111 and hellblazer55,
first, I have been trying to get a copy of slayer but I can not. I have looked in the VIP downloads and says it is there but I can not find it. I am assuming the aid 3.0 is like the aid2.1 in the fact that I need to have a saved expoilt on the HDD in order to get the xbox to read the iso, but I may be wrong. I have the mechassualt save on memcard and the game but when I boot up the game it does not reconized it like before it asks be to set up a new profile meaning it does not see any saves at all. So I guess I am stuck there unless you smartier guys can tell a newbie like me to make it work.
In addition the easiest fix sounds like a new game to update dash I have put in Halo 2 and it boots up and I can play the game but how do I update the dash. After playing it for a few minutes I rebooted it without the game and I get error 13. So how do I updated the dash.
hellblazer55, you where totally right about the hotswap, I am a noob! however I do now have the correct procedure but I would like to try an easier fix first. I will resort to this as a last ditch because I am afraid of locking my hdd and making a paperweight. Of course if I follow directions carefully that should not happen. What I have done in preparation is burn the iso from xboxhdm with a C, E and F drive from the MSdash I downloaded. There is also a EEPROM folder that I put my EEPROM.bin file in. there is also a xbox folder and a isolinux folder. a check file and two txt files. Did I do this correctly?
Thanks all, I would be stuck without your help.

No, dont get Slayers, because its difficul to find and use, and AID is easiest to use. The reason VIP downloads doesnt carry it, is because whats the need for Slayers , when you have AID.
Wait, im losing myself here. Do you have a copy of AID 3.0? When you first boot AID 3.0, you will find that you can download Ms dash 5960, download it.
What error 13 is, basically, you need to install MS dash 5960

I am currently downloading AID 3.0, but wow the xbox will let me install the Ms dash 5960 from the AID 3.0 ISO? I know when I installed AID 2.1 I had to have the Mechassault exploit and game in order for the xbox to recongize the iso file?

If your already softmodded you won't need anything but burning the ISO to a disk and dropping it into the xbox. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I did softmod the box but I tried to restore the C drive to original state, because I was not smart, and I got an error in the middle of it so it is all messed up. No dash, which is why I am having problems just putting in a disk. I am assuming from posts that I can do this with AID 3.0 which I am currently downloading. Before with AID 2.1 I had to use the Mechassault game with the save. I can not do that anymore because the HDD does not recognize any saves. I can put the game in and play but there is no Lunix option. I do have the Lunix save on my memcard but the xbox does not recognize that either. The game just wants to to create a new profile, i.e. no saves.
Thanks, Steve

you have to fix the xbox by hotswapping then remod before using the aid disk. _________________

Thanks for the help, So I am gonna hotswap. I downloaded the MSDash file. there are folders within folders. Do I just copy the Ms-C contents into the C folder of the xboxhdm and put my eeprom.bin in the eeprom folder and then 'make-iso-win' and make iso? Or, what exactly needs to be in the folders before I make the iso?
Thanks for all the help guys, I know this post is getting long but I am learner and all of you are teachers so thank you for sharing your knowledge. Please don't get fustrated with your student.
Thanks alot, Steve

You think this is a long post? Lol, not even close, and your doing great. How do you learn if you don't ask questions?
But yes, take the contents of ms-c and put then into Linux\C\. You want to see files and a couple of directories in Linux\C, not just a single directory. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide
