Hi folks,
just wanted to softmod a new xbox (manufactured mid 2005, bought at last xmas) for my children because average game dvd lifetime with the children is about 6 weeks
So I got myself the newest auto-installer (via emule) and applied the MechAssault "Run Linux" using a Mega-X-Key (usb stick)
There showed up a "SID 3.1" menu, and I followed the obvoius options just straight forward: Backup EEPROM, Backup C drive, execute the Softmod, install Bootloader, install BIOS, install evoxdash, select even a dual boot to have anytime access to the softmod menu.
All seemed to work, ftp to the box is working, even the copy utilities worked (just copied NHL Hits 2002 on drive E)
BUT after restarting the box, no dash will start (box hangs in the bootlogo).
Fortunately, the original games still start (though after finishing a game by ejecting the disk, it will result in an error 21 with red-flashing eject button)
So I can re-apply the SID 3.1 menu but cannot use any dashboard now.
Any idea somebody? HELP appreciated. This should be only a small mistake (by me?), hope there exists a fast solution maybe by ftp'ing some patch directly on the box?! If this sounds stupid, then keep in mind that I AM NEW TO THIS softmod.

if you can get the game to still load just reapply the softmod and it should be fine

yes just reformat the whole C and E drive, and restore ms dash. Then reinstall the softmod. _________________ Moddingbandit

To be sure: Restore C from E:/Backup/MS, then format E, then Undo Softmod, restart box, execute MechAssault Linux save, and apply the softmod again as described above!?
Similar approaches I did before but not undoing the softmod, and not formatting drive E.
Last question before I start on it: Do I really have to format drive C, is it not enough to restore from backup?
I will report (success) later on....

Okay, it was much easier than thought (though I did just an "uninstall Softmod" with SID 3.1) and started all over again. Same problem.
So I used the FileManager of the SID menu to start the evodash.xbe and it worked. The problem was TO INSTALL THE HACKED DASH LOADER AFTER (!!!) THE SOFTMOD AND DASHBOARD COPYING.
For lazy manual readers like me even the SID requires a workflow assistant (maybe a good idea anyways
