Ok, here's my predicament; I have 2 xbox's I am modding, xb1 and xb2. They were both roughly purchased around the same time last year in the Q4. They both have samsung drives etc. Now, when I went through the SID tutorial, one would boot to UnleashX with the tray open and closed on startup. The other does not. It will boot UnleashX with the tray closed only. If I open the tray on startup, it goes to the SID menu like I had just gone through mechassault. Not to be confused with the AID menu. Also, when I was trying to go through the tutorial on upgrading the hdd for xb2 (the one that doesn't load UnleashX with tray open) to a 160gb, I followed through with the instructions on the flash one here at this site, and I ended up unlocking it without realizing that I need to backup the C: and E: and eeprom(? What the hell is that?) to my computer. So now I have an unlocked xb2 without a backup that I still want to upgrade the hdd if it's still possible. Is there a way? I don't want to have to reformat the dumb thing, but if I gotta start from scratch, oh well. Also, I tried to ftp xb2 to my computer to try and get the folders, but I get something like, "software refuses connection." So, does that also mean I can't use Hotswap or whatever? I haven't tried it out yet, but the tutorials I've been finding aren't too detailed. It just says to "ftp to your computer and backup your C: E: and eeprom." Again, what is eeprom? I read it is in the E: So if I'm already backing it up, why bother to tell my to backup what's in it? ??? If someone could help me out, and you know, give me the instructions like I'm a, hmmmmm... NEWB; That would be great. Thanks in advance. If the great purrip has any time to help, please also consider to revise your tut. Sorry if I come across as a prick, I'm just frustrated with all the "little steps" being left out that cause me such great grief.

thanks,
SS

Well if you unlocked your original Xbox harddrive and dont have a eeprom backup sittn on your pc, you might be screwed, unless it sets the master password before it unlocks it(not sure on that). You could also fix it if you could some how manage to hardmod it.

EEPROM contains your xbox harddrive password among other things. You need it to lock and unlock your harddrive. You should never unlock your original xbox harddrive if you are using a software exploit.

As far as not being able to FTP, you have to make sure all your network settings are setup properly. We would need more details of your network to help you most likely.

I know my master password is TEAMASSEMBLY as I unlocked it through Config Magic. I got the xboxhdm iso made and ran it off my computer, then I went to option 1 at the main menu, and then xboxhd at the next, but then instead of being asked for a login, it just sits at a blank command line. I thought maybe it takes time, but I don't see how it would take over 5-10 minutes. Also, I tried to lock xb2 through the linux un/lock tools. But when I put in the password, I got another message. I don't remember what it said though. It didn't say it was the wrong password, just something else.. Also, I'm not sure how important this is, but when I disconnect the ide cable from the dvd-rom before startup, then turn it on, instead of error 11, I get 12. I'm gonna see what that means after I post this.

Well, the way I got my original xbox setup to ftp was:
Computer IP: 192.168.1.4
Sub: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
xbox IP: 192.168.1.5

Since the IP on most xbox's is 192.168.0.1 or .2, then couldn't I still connect? Or would having the xbox unlocked prevent that? Anyway, here is the link to the tutorial I used to ftp my original xbox. Hope this info helps.[/url]

Ok I think I can help a bit.

You should not have to log in using xboxhdm. Make sure you have your harddrive set as the Master and your cdrom drive set as the slave. When I did it, I had my Harddrive and Cdrom on different IDE cables. I just made sure the harddrive was on the Primary cable.

Also, sence your harddrive is unlocked you most likely are never seeing a dash. So FTP will not work.

The setup i've always used that has never given me problems is.

xbox hdd on CS IDE1 Primary Master
cd/dvd rom on Master IDE2 Primary Master

Works flawlessly all the time.

I don't think the problem is with the ide cables. Maybe I put the backup ms files in the wrong place or something. Other than just downloading the xboxhdm and ms-c files, the read-me offers some help, but not that much. What files should I have in the C: folder? Also, is there a way still to recover without the eeprom?

Just put MSDASH 5960 in the C folder and your exploited game saves in the E folder. When you load up xboxhdm you should seem some linux text fly by and then you will get a option screen. You never will have to login.

If you know the password or master password(you said you did), then you do not need the eeprom to relock the original harddrive.

Before you made the ISO, you should of copied UDATA and TDATA (these are your game saves) to the E directory. It is recommended to put your exploited game save in there.

It wont work in your xbox untill you lock it with the eeprom from the original harddrive.

Yes you can using option 3, if you can get ahold of the eeprom. Once your have the eeprom, put all the files in the eeprom folder.

if you unlocked the hd you will need an eeprom backup to lock it for softmod use.

if you don't have an eeprom backup then yuo can't use your xbox until you buy a chip .

this because a retail or softmodded xbox needs a locked hd (locked with the correct eeprom)

cheers

pirrup
