I have spent hours and hours researching this site and with the great help of the forums, tutorials and VIP downloads, I have been able to easily and successfully soft mod my XBOX via the Splinter Cell exploit using AID. Can’t thank the folks here at XBOX HQ enough.
Now I’m on to the next step, installing a larger hard drive, and I beginning to have some difficulties. I am using the Michael Brim “Install Larger HD into SoftModded Xbox” guide in the tutorial. I downloaded xboxhdm and connected via FlashFXP. But when I navigate to E:\backup\MS, there is no file called eeprom.bin.
Now, I was very careful to backups using both the Create MS backup and Create Mod Backup options in the UnleashX control panel during the first stages of the softmod. Both E:\backup\MS and E:\backup\Mod are both there, but I can’t find an eeprom.bin file anywhere.
I went back and to the beginning and reloaded the Linux save from Splinter Cell again and re-did the Create MS backup and Create Mod Backup in UnleashX. Still no eeprom.bin file.
What is going on? What can I do? Can I still install a hard drive without this file?
Edit: Under E:\backup\MS is:
Folder - Audio
Folder - Fonts
Folder - XBOXDASHDATA 185EAD00
Folder - XOXDASH
File - Xbox Book.xtf
File - Xbox.xtf
File- Xbox Dash.xbe
No .bins anywhere.
Under E:\backup\Mod is Nothing, though I swear there were files in there earlier. So, What do you think?
Thanks in advance for your help.
PS – I don’t know if this has anything to do with anything, but when I launch the MS Dash, I get the black error screen w/ green text in multiple languages. Does this mean anything?

your eeprom backup is not found where your ms backup is, to obtain your eeprom you must dump it.
download Evox, put it as an application, and run the backup option.
Example:
evox will be installed in E:\apps\evox3935\default.xbe <<<might be called evoxdash.xbe, but rename to default.xbe so it's autoadded by your current dash.
then you run it, look for backup options, should be in "system" or quite visible at main menu sometimes, all depends on the menu script. after that's done, you'll quit evox, then ftp to E:\apps\evox3935\backup\<<< this will have your xbox main files, including your eeprom.bin, and this all you'll need.
hopes this is enough for you, good luck on this

Thanks nknave!
I already looked under the evox backup files and, yep, there was a copy of the eeprom.bin.
This allowed me to use the mak-iso-win file to create the linux.iso file (3.5 Gigs?!?) and using DVD decrypter, burned the iso to a DVD-R. But when I try to boot with this DVD I get: “Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter.”
I tried several more times (and used several blank DVD) to recompile the Linux iso and burn the iso to DVD, but it is always the same result.
What have I done wrong?
Thanks again for all of your help.

why 3.5 gigs, are you putting all files in there to do it all in 1?
you know it takes long time to get all that done throught this disc?
i think just put your ms dash on C, and eeprom on eeprom\ and build your linux.iso disc, then burn the image with nero, by opening iso file, don't burn as data, and once you have that done, it should boot just fine. _________________ Xbox v1.1

nknave,
I was just following orders! Seriously though, I followed the “Install Larger Hard-Drive into SoftModded Xbox” write-up in the tutorials section, which states:
“Navigate back to the root of your Xbox hard-drive and transfer the contents of your C:\ and E:\ folders from your Xbox to your local \xboxhdm\linux folder.”
It says to transfer the stuff from the E drive, which is why I guess mine was so bloated. As you suggest, I will re-try is using only the C drive and eeprom. It should take a lot less time.
Will saving the C drive data include my game saves? I guess it wouldn’t be the biggest deal in the world to lose my game saves, but I’m right in the middle of Half Life 2, and it would be a chore to start from the beginning.
Thanks again for the assist,
-J

Hi again Gus738. I replied to your post in the other thread -- good advice, but it turns out that there was eeprom.bin backup under the evox backup files. So, no worries there.
I will re-try to compile the linux iso file tonight using nknave's advice. I'll let you guys know how it shakes out.
Thanks a ton,

Only, it says there is about a 130 gig drive instead of the 250 gigs it should be seeing. ARRRRGH!
Any ideas why this is? I have to do some research...
Gus, thanks for the link. That is the tutorial that I used. Worked great execept for the whole mssing 125 gigabytes thing

NK NAVE what is it exactly he needs?? i know what it is but dont know whr or how to find it ... SORRY MY PC IS screw up in couple .... so it would give me lik 100 internet pages ... and then almost freeze up .. that means i have spyware AND I SCAN AND NOT JUST ANY KIND , HEVY so free pc again ... note that is why i wasnt here so i have to sign out so i came back ... re boot pc thou... ok

Thanks Gus. Hopefully, Nknaave will chime in here soon. I have found a lot of info on changing the bios to allow for a "chipped" Xbox to have an HD larger than 120, but nothing about how to accomplish this with a softmod.
...but I'll keep looking.
As far as your questions, Gus: The whole process with XBOXHDM and the linux.iso only took about 20 minutes or so. Very easy. Of course, I only compiled the eeprom and c: drive, so that probably made it a lot quicker. I only have the 250 gig drive in the box; the stock drive is now sitting safely on a shelf I locked the HD during the XBOXHDM process. No ship onboard the Xbox, softmod only.
Cheers,

ok so ur xbox is softmoded only righ???? no chip ? then how come it says on ur info that u have smartxx or somtin like that...? THERE IS A FILE im telling u that will make ur bios react that way u get ur full 250 gbs... i think c box tools would be helpful. SO THE XBOXHDM LINUX process was 20? u just typed xboxhdm enter
yes , yes then lockhd -a ??? so its lockhd then space then minus a ???? i got a maxtor 200gb 8mb chahce hdd but my stock hdd is a lil mess up so i have to fix it to get my correct eeprom and then use xboxhdm for my newer hdd... (does anyone know if i should keep this 200gb? why cuz my dad drop the hdd by accident like 5 and somting feet to the ground... staples could exchage it 4 free... it fell out of the case and hdd landed on the ground)... im most likely gonna ask for exchange.. IF THEY DONT HAVE THIS SIZE WHO KNOWS I MIGHT EVEN GET A 250 OR 300 GB 4 FREE!

That's a good question, Gus. It says the same thing as yours! Is that the default or somthing? I put in softmodd under type in my profile. Not sure where that other stuff is coming from. The XBOXHDM process was quick and easy - exactly as the tutorial states.

Nice to see you picking up on things gus738. Keep up the good work.
Fripp1, if you don't have AID yet, get it. My guess is that the g: partition isn't formated yet. You can do this through AID. Also in the system settings of EvoX there is and option to use the g: partition. Set that to yes. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS
