Hi, first timer here. I'm thinking of softmodding my xbox but I have a couple questions. Is it necessary to find out what version my xbox is when softmodding with lets say Agent Under Fire? How can I restore my backup files in case I screw up?

hi mentos,
The version of xbox is not really important if you do a softmod,however i would reccomend updating the dash to the latest version before you softmod it,there are plenty of posts on this site to explain how to do this,if your xbox is relativley new it should have the latest one on it ( 5960 i think )As for restoring the files if you use the softmod installer deluxe disc to do it there is an option to make a backup of your system before you softmod it,this places the files in a safe place for easy restoring

Thanks for replying boxy. Before I go on I need help with one more thing. I dont understand this step from the guide...
21. Go to the "Softmod Section" and select "Install NKpatcher + MS Dash", this will format your C Drive and set it up the softmod and ms dash to work alongside each other. You have the same options with the boot location and tray open/clsoed feature, so use the same as you used previously. Please note if you installed your Dashboard to C you will have to re-install it again, because the C Drive was formatted before the NKpatcher + MS Dash option was operated. Another note, make sure you install the dashboard from the "Softmod Section" and not from the main menu, because the dashboard installation setup in the main menu is for modchip users only.
what part of the c drive is formatted to install the patch? wont it delete my backup ms dash? but then i have to insert the 007 disk and install the savegame again?

Your MS backup is placed into backup folder on the E:\ drive and therefor never touched by the format. With where you are at in the tutorial doign the exploit again is not needed because that is what AID is doing for you, installing the MS dash and the softmod, all then is needed is a dash like evo-x or UnleashX.

at one stage,i chipped my first xbox on the strength of info gained from this site,if you get a problem just stick a post in the relevant forum and 99.9% of the time someone will have had the same problem and will be able to help.
