I was wondering if the newer version motherboards (v1.6, v1.6b)are any better than the older ones (v1.0, v1.1). I mean can you notice any difference in performance? I read in some forums elsewhere that the older ones have crappy video chips or something along those lines. I think thats bullshit, the only difference I could see happening is M$ making there components cheaper. I know they differ from version to version but was wondering because I have a few different ones and I mostly use my v1.1 but if the v1.4 is better I should be using that one. Any advice is appreciated, thanks. _________________ Xbox V1.1 Xenium ice solderless 2.3.0/OS

The only difference I am aware of and personally live so I know it's true is the older V1.0 has a cd/dvd reader that sucks out loud. Later they started to put in a different version and I guess most of the read issues I have were addressed for those with newer versions. Virtually all of them have the famous fire hazard issue and the v1.0 and 1.1 suck to mod for those that don't solder well because all the holes that a modchip would fit in to are prefilled with solder. Later models are not. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

The thompson was the bad drive. IT WAS FRENCH! , but nah, it was a bad dvd. The second Gen, 2003 thompsons were better, but still sucked. Coulden't read through a d-skin.
I love the hitachi, wished I had the samsung, but love the hitachi _________________ XBOX v1.6

I think it was just the v1.0 with the soldered filled holes I have a v1.1 and the holes were not filled. Any more info would be great, thanks. _________________ Xbox V1.1 Xenium ice solderless 2.3.0/OS

Most of the 1.1's did not have the extra fan. I actually prefer the 1.0 motherboard over all mobo's because of that extra fan. This way, I can install larger HDs without the customer worrying about heat issues.
Desoldering the LPC isn't that hard after you do a few. You just have to be careful not to leave the iron on each point for too long. You should notice no performance differences between the boards.
If there was any differences at all between the board performances you would see a lot of ebay auctions boasting about the board. Just like the Samsung DVD drive ads how they always boast about the drive being the best drive made for the Xbox. You just don't see anything like that in regard to boards. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
