I finally got home and then hooked up the Xbox. Got the error message that says "Your xbox requires service. Please call customer support" Has the number 05 in the corner. I Googled it and it says that I have to lock the drive. HOW THE HECK DO YOU DO THIS!?! ARRRRG!! That'll tech me for buyin stuff on eBay.
I'll be forever in the debt to whoever can help me get this fixed ASAP... My wife already gave me "The Look" for buying it; I can just imagine what'll happen when she finds out it's messed up!
Anyone... please?

The only way to lock the HD is either by the chips OS like with the Xenium Ice or SmartXX you can do it right from their menu.
Or, you can boot an Autoinstaller and use the autoinstaller to lock the HD. If you can boot to Evoution X Dasbhoard, there is a selection there too.
Or, launch Configmagic...
Hope that gives you a litte more to go on.

Yeah, man. Make sure you have the chip installed or the softmod complete before trying to use the new drive.
Don't forget, too, that when you put a new drive in, it doesn't have any of the software on it to load a single program... such as the Microsoft dashboard (where you would normally edit your savegames, system settings, or music, etc.), so you have to either FTP it over (using a hacked dash of some kind), or copy it via DVD (or CDRW if you're lucky).
Read up on it as much as possible, and feel free to ask us on anything you're unclear on. We'll do our best to make sure you get "the look" as infrequently as possible...

lol funny stuff my girlfriend actually wants a modded xbox after all the nifty stuff i do with it. you'll just have to show her how you can FTP a dl'ed movie onto it in about 3-4 minutes and be able to watch your nice pirated movies on the tv instead of the pc moniter. by pirated of course i mean backups. .. and i feel i an providing a service to the theater by backing up their movies too within a week of release. and just think about all the money you will eventually save by dl'ing games! $50 a pop means after 3 games you already saved what a new xbox woulda cost ya.
anyways if your chip is flashed correctly i'd recommend the AutoInstaller Deluxe 1.01. your xbox should boot from this disk and you can use ConfigMagic on the disk to lock/unlock the hdd. you will also be able to throw on a new dashboard plus get more apps and emulators than you'll ever use Good Luck man, best wishes with the wife!

hmm, i need some of you pros on here to verify what i'm suggesting, but when you boot the xbox doesn't it go through a sequence of locking and unlocking the hard drive?or vice versa?and is there a point on the loading sequence where you can pull the ide cable out of the hard drive to get it to lock?if not, mabye a hot swap to the pc may do the trick, read up on it.

I'm pretty sure that unpluggin the ide cable from the back during boot won't do anything for you. Now talking about hot swapping hd's, that I'm not too clear on. It is POSSIBLE I believe but doing it will probably be pretty tricky.
Like other people have said in this thread, your OS or hacked bios should allow you the option to lock/unlock your hd. I'd try flashing your bios with Evox M8 if you haven't already done so and try that out.
But for sure I know that unplugging the ide cable won't get you anywhere. Hope this helps. _________________ XBOX v1.6c
