I'm trying to upgrade my factory HDD to a WD800JB (80GB WD drive). So far, I've only removed the factory HDD and replaced it with WD800JB. I then power-on the Xbox and see my SmartXX 2.0 menu (great). I placed the AutoInstaller DVD (verified that it boots with factory HDD). Now when I select my X2 flash from the SmartXX menu, everything seems fine. As soon as I see the Xecuter logo, I receive an error code 21. What am I doing wrong?

It's not reading your disk. So, since it thinks there's no disk to boot it tries to launch your dashboard.

And since you have a new HD with no dashboard on it, you get error 21.

Try burning the .ISO to a DVD-R and see where that gets you.

Thx for your tip, but I managed to trudge on and figure it out. Here's what I did:

Configured Factory HDD as Master and new HDD as slave (unplugged IDE cable from DVD-ROM).

Booted in SmartXX OS (
-Formatted all partitions (C, E, F)
-Copied OS from master to slave
-Formatted E,F, and caches for heck of it

Removed factory drive and replaced it with new drive. Re-installed DRV-ROM, closed case, etc

Booted into Autoinstaller (it worked after I copied OS over and before I did anything ... weird)

Installed EvoX, Apps, Emulaters, etc...

I'm now enjoying my new HDD! Thanks to my persistence and your guide! I hope this helps someone with a SmartXX chip. Now, I need to learn how to copy games over to the HDD.

To backup a game, just go to the EvoX menu and select, "Launch Applications".

Now select, "DVD2 Xbox Media Copier".

When it loads up, press the white button. This will allow you to enable saving to the F and G drives if you have them, you should have the F anyway.

Press the white button to save and go back to menu.

Now, put your game in the tray and close it.

Press A after the game is initialized. You will see at the bottom of the screen it saying, Disk Initializing, then it will say Xbox Software and give the size of disk.

Once you press A you will now have to select the drive to save in, scroll down to F:/games or G:/games if you are saving to G.

Press A.

Next, it will give you an opportunity to make sure all looks good. If so, press Start button and the ripping begins.

PxHDD Loader is a littel easier.

Pop the game in and press B. It will tell you the size and say press A to continue. Press A and the ripping begins.

I choose DVD2Xbox because it gets around encryption better.

If i did that with mine would it copy the eeprom to the new hard drive?

I am new to moding, however I successfully installed the X-Chip, and uploaded new bios via the X-Control program that comes with the chip. I have downloaded and burned the Auto Installer Deluxe to DVD-R and DVD+RW. However my Xbox won't read the disks. I've even tried burning it as a UDF, still it won't read. My main goal is to format a new HDD and load AID. If you have any suggestions I would truley appreciate it, Thanks
