Hello,
for long time I am searching media player options such as Prismiq, Roku HD100, Kiss etc. During this process many times I read xbox is one of the solutions. I am giving my requirement or expectations from media player.
Minimum requirements:
1. Wireless contection between my HTPC and XBOX. (11b or 11g)
2. PAL (for video aut and games) and 240 volts compatiblity.
3. Remote control and keyboard support.
4. 120 gbyet HD.
5. Media center feature/software (Audio: MP3, WMA etc. Video:MPEGs, Divx etc. Picture:Jpeg, bmp etc)
6. S video, scart out, digital audio output with my TV.
7. Gaming for my son.
I read many posts in this forum. (Honestly the forum is very usefull ) Finally I guess I can mod XBOX myself. But really I can make it I am not sure. What is your opinion? Can I do that really? I do not waste my money.
Thanks for now.

I think the Xbox will meet or come close to meeting your requirements. I've never used a keyboard with Xbox Media Center, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that others had.
As far as modding the box goes, you are likely very capable of soldering the chip. I practiced with an old, non-working Sega Genesis console until I felt more comfortable soldering on something that actually works. I just finished modding an Xbox with an Xecuter 3 and it was not very difficult. Just solder the pin header in place (the most contact points of the install, but great access/eay to solder), then 3 wires to the motherboard onto easy solder points. The rest was simply plugging things in. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

I am a little bit afraid of soldering. Can I use solderless way? Is there any difference between solder and solderless from performance point of view?

Seriously, don't be afraid! Find an old computer motherboard or old game system and practice on it! That's what I did. Until about two weeks ago, I had NEVER soldered before in my life! I just finished assembling an entire Pentium-class motherboard for a computer. OK, THAT is an entire lie! But I DID solder in a X3 modchip for a friend. Practice a little bit, take your time, don't be sloppy, don't be stupid. It really takes next-to-no skill. It's easier than changing the oil in your car. In fact, if you bring your Xbox over to my house, you can change my car's oil, while I mod your Xbox.

Yes. Girlie-men do it all the time! I'm, in fact, a former girlie-man. my first mod was solderless... Every once in a while, it may "shift" inside the Xbox slightly & you'll take to take the Xbox apart and realign it. Sometime soon, I may rip it out and do it right! Solder it!

When it IS aligned, a solderless and soldered modchip will perform the same, provided they are comparable modchips to begin with.
Seriously, you can do it either way, but play around with soldering... it's so much more permanent. If you get it in right, you are done! No more realigning... actually, with the soldered route, there's not really ANY critical alignments to be made. With the solderless, you screw it into the motherboard and you have to S-L-O-W-L-Y shift its position, trying to get it lined up just right. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

I know this forum is for xbox, but I would like to ask one PS2 question. I hope I will not make some people angry with my question. I read that PS2 also can be used as a media center with a kind of SW. Does anybody have such exp. with PS2?

I know that you can lay a phonograph on top of it and play your 45s on it, provided you keep your PS2 horizontal. I know next-to-nothing about PS2. I'm sure there are a number of people here with both Xbox & PS2 who may be more helpful that I. You'd probably get a better response if you asked it under a new thread. Many people just skip over threads with non-specific names. Try calling it "How Do PS2 & Xbox compare As Media Centers?" or something like that. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room
