I just bought a couple of new XBOXs to softmod from scratch. I have three, each with a different drive. I have been looking all over for softmod tutorials and most of them are two years old or not very clear. Can anyone point me in the right direction with a simple updated tutorial? I have a general idea, as I have a softmod already. I just didn't do it from scratch.

The walktthrough is great, but goes a little too fast for someone trying to figure it out as they go like me? Also, there is no narrator. I want to be able to do it without you walking me through it over the phone. I try to be independent.

I will try it out though and see how it works. Like you said. I can always post a question. In your opinion, what is the best drive? I need one that reads dvd+rw. I have one of each drive. I would like to keep the one with the best compatibilties. Final Cloud made a post about this, but I have seen at least four different ones one this site alone, so I don't know who to trust. The last one you helped me on wa a samsung and I didn't like it to much.

Did you actually try that? That's like Samsung's new advertising phrase. When all others won't read sh**, Samsung will.

Are they all 605? I have heard from three different people and the several media guides on here that every drive is the best. That really doesn't help much. I would rather take an HQ Geniuses word for it. I guess I'll have to try them all out and go the long route.

This is just a matter of what you have work the best for you and for me that was the 605 the top of the line will read anything you got is the samsung modded pc disc drive but that a lot of work and you need to flash new firmware.

Im strictly talking about the drives that come with the xbox. I just want to know which one is best because I plan to keep that one out of the four I have. I am keeping two, but one is the samsung you already halped me with. I have a Halo edition on the way and don't know what drive it has yet. Like I said, Cloud and others have diffrent opinions. I just want to know the facts. I'm a quality man, but I don't want any after market drives, just the best one that comes with the XBOX.

Just pop the top and pull the disc drive and put in the aid disk if it wont boot it first shot remove that one.
when you weed out the ones that wont boot aid pop in a diffrent format disc and see whats left that will boot it.

So you are saying, keep the one that boots the AID disc. Meaning they all won't boot it? Sounds simple enough. I'm really worried about dvd+rw. I wasted too many dvd-r on weeding out what roms work and what ones don't since my Flash would never get connected. Still never got it to work. I'm just going to stick with the iso's on dvd-rs.

Yeah man just try each drive and see which one will run the most discs and seems to work best, i mean you ask which is best, look at it like this we all know a BMW beats a VW but if the BMW stalls and wont run half the time then a well bilt bug beats it out right.
