Hi everyone, I am new to this all so please be patient with me.

I am just wondering if it is possible to softmod a v1.6 xbox as I have read many contradictory articles on the web. my xbox was manufactured this year it think so accordding to some sources that it is impossible to softmod. altough some places say it should be fine.

I tried the linux mechinstaller softmod from sourceforge and this failed,
I currently have v1.6 xbox
xbox to usb converter
non claasics verisons of mechassult and 007 agent under fire
256mb stick, 64mb stick 1gb stick all formatted to fATX
possible access to a mac to transfer files to the stick

I cant find a gameshark or action replay anywhere, all retailers in the UK stopped selling them a long time ago

your help in this is much appreciated

It is definitely possible, I've softmodded tons of 1.6, my own included.

I would check here for a better way to softmod, you'll want to download SID4.5.

Further, there are only a couple of versions of games that work. Mech and 007 have both working and non-working versions, test them, if it works, great, if not, then your versions won't work. I ended up buying splinter cell, since all versions reportedly work with it.

Its possible to softmod a 1.6. my softmodded xbox is a 1.6. I did not use Mech or 007, I used splinter cell. I worked with no problem. I got the splinter cell for like 5 bucks used. My xbox was made in 04 though. I don't know if that makes a diff.
