Im am not 100% with unleash x but I know that on evo-x you can actually launch xbmc as a program
The only thing that will cause any conflict with not having an ftp connection is if for some reason you need to pull some backup files. The only feature that you will miss out on without having a network connection with xbmc is the weather feature

and music/video streaming from internet, streaming music/videos from your computer, rss feeds, etc.
