!!Warning!! this is a very long detailed explanation skip to bottom if rather not read it
ok so for the past couple of months my xbox has been running fine with XBMC as its dashboard.. till resently i decided i wanted the xbox to go back to its original retail factory state... so i do a google and come across slayers evox... i download it put it on a cd-r and try to boot it.. disc read error.. my first guess was that i was using a cd-r and not a dvd.. then i googled xbox dvd drives and came to llamas page on determining what kind of dvd drive you have.. i was lucky i guess because i have a samsung... ok but why didnt it boot?... i write another cd-r (using alcohol 120%).. doesnt work.. so i sat and pondered for a few minutes.. then i say why dont i just ftp it to my drive since i still have ftp support... so i get an xbox iso extracter and extract the files and ftp the auto installer to the xbox as an app.. then try to run it .. that worked.. so now i was in slayers menu... ok.. then i pull up slayers v2.6 manual and read for puting the xbox back to reatail... ok.. then a red flag goes up in my head and tells me that if i try to format the drive off an app instead of a cd/dvd media it wont work... but as the kind of person i am i say what do i have to loose and selct the format and install xbox retail factory option... i small text box shows up ands says.. formating...installing dash... done!.. ok now what.. i turn off my xbox and boot it up.. then i get the flashing red/green led and that 10 dif language "call xbox support page".. then i try to boot slayers evox off one of the two cd-r i made... doesnt work......so i look around on the internet some more and i find AID v3.0 (a newer more up to date auto installer) i say what the heck and download it (its currently downoading 55% as i speak).. hoping it will solve my problem...
anyways so what im asking is will AID solve my problem or do i have to go out and purchases a dvd burner? (last resort)
//summed up version of problem - i think i just formated my xbox (with a samsung drive) and it will not boot the cd-r of slayers evox i made and i currently downloading AID to see if it will work//

what error code do you get when you turn your xbox on
it seems to have worked for LtotheIQUID but i just tried using nero 7 with samsung drive ands it not booting

ok i went here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210562 and it tells me that error code 13 requires a game with a dashboard update.. i just tried putting halo 2 in and selecting xbox live.. same error... and then i tried starwars battlefront and selected xbox live and then it had error 14 ... which here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210562 says its the same as 13 but this time uve played around with stuff on the hard disk... ??? then i tried booting again without starwars battlefront or any dvd for that matter and and now says error code 13... ok so now im like really pissed because i just screwwed up my xbox completely when aprox. 30 hours ago it was running fine

join the club of fu**ed x-boxes soon that error code 13 will turn into a 16 then you have to hotswap it (im a noob thats all i know) i havnt a clue how to get the x box files for it but as far as i know it is a basta*d

ok so what youyr saying is that it cant be fixed... like the reason why AID is not booting is because of error code 13... not the type of media im using? esplain

whell from what ive gathered ive done almost the same as you but a lot more stupider.
if power doesnt go to the x-box for around 4 hours some clock thing inside gets erased and error code 16 appears instead of 13 and NOTHING AT ALL READS so you have to hotswap http://xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-161.html
so if i were you keep playing games untill you CAN get AID to work thats if ordinary games still work i now have to do the hotswap thing to fix it but i cant find origional x-box files to fix it.

yeah you are probaly going to have to hotswap pirrup has a tutorial using xboxhdm1.9. you should be fine then. That why I bought a chip so I wouldnt have to worry about hotswapping

i didnt have a clue about hotswapping untill the other day when i messed up my x-box so kids theres a valuable lesson in all of this......
leave your dashboard ALONE if it works dont change it
unless you have a modchip........dont have any money to get one *sigh*

yeah I softmodded all my friends xbox and I always tell them leave it alone it works fine but they never listen. all the time someone comes back to my house and is like my xbox wont work and then they get mad when i say well its gonna cost you to fix this because I dont like taking my computer apart to fix someone elses box

i dont blame you all i need are the file TO do the hotswap if someone could send me the x-box files it would be apprieciated
also could you do the hotswap instead of using the x-box dash a differant dash so its pre-modded?

i modded my xbox way back on my own using the splinter cell, action replay, and linux save.. however i decided i wanted to go back to xbox live and tried to get rid of it ^^read above^^ and it obviously has not worked.. thanks anyways i will try to "hotspwap" er whatever you to me (dont know whay it is but sure i find it out) by the way ive left my xbox on all day so its still error 13 idk is that a good thing?

ok so for the last couple of hours ive been hot swaping using this http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/332766 tutorial.. it was very detailed and worked very well.. i was even able to access all the partitioins of the xobx.. i followed the directions for puting it back to its amnuafacturing state.. then (making sure i put xbox's data cable back to its hard drive befor turning offf) i booted up the xbox..still error message 13 wtf? well ima go to bed now and think about it for a while its 2:25 am

yahooo!!!! its fixed... after trying the turorial ^^above"^^ i tried the tutorial you guys sent me thats here on xbox hq. i just put the files in there appropriate places, double clicked on win to iso thing, then it made an iso file for me to rip to a cd whick i use to create the xbox harddrive.. but still after doing all that it showed the error message... then i left for work pondering on the thought all day.. until recently came home and tried putting in starwars battlefront again to see if it would update the dashboard.. and suceess!! it worked.. and then it put me strait to the ms dashboard.. well that it my first successful story on a forum lol now i plan to put xbox live bock on here... is that ok now?

GREAT! now what were the files you put on the x-box and on that other tutorial you posted it used a windows app to access the drive you did try this?
i wanted to know if you could move files already on the hdd tis o.k if you didnt try
