Heres the deal. I took a stock Xbox, 1.6, and put the Mech Assault SID on it. So, then i load up Mech Assault, select Run Linux, and it loads Unleash X. So now, I have FTP access. I put a bigger HDD in, and have a few games installed on F, along with some emus, and I also put XBMC on E.
I am doing all of this by loading up Mech Assault and loading that Run Linux profile to open FTP on the xbox.
So, now that all of that is on the xbox, I still put in Mech Assault, and load the Run Linux profile to load Unleash X, and from Unleash X, I use the file manager to browse to the .XBE of whatever game I want to play, or whatever app I want to run. I have no mod chip, and I have never tried any of the install options from Unleash X.
Part of the reason for this, is, I am slightly nervous about replacing dashboards, as I have fried an Xbox about 2 years ago tyring this stuff out.
Now I am so close to full functionality, I can taste it. My question is, how can I set it up to load Unleash X when the system boots? Is a modchip the only way?? I guess I don't understand something in the docs, or I missed some part, but I just don't feel comfortable enough to attempt it with the documentation I have read thus far, combined with my past experiences, I mean, I have made it much, much farther this time, but I'm just not willing to take the risk, while I can still run it the way I am.
And, is it a software thing that you guys can run that keeps your system from rebooting when you eject? Or can that only be done with a chip as well? If a chip is the only way, what if I had a copy of Xbox Music Maker installed on the HDD? This game allows eject without reboot. I thought maybe if I had a copy of it on the HDD, I could load it, and eject the disc, replace with DVD/GAME or whatever, and then soft reset L+R+BL+WH. Wouldn't I have access to the DVD ROM, without a reboot on eject?
Anyway, I asked alot of questions here, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

wow ok
1create ms backup
2patch to ms 560 whatever the number is (ms dashboard version)
3cteate ms backup again if all whent well
4install softmodd
5install evox dashboard (trust me)
6create modd back up
7reboot
8when evox dashboard boots create backup
9ftp backup to computer (this file saves your ass if you f#&@ up
so dont skip it)
10 load sid and install wichever dash you want and make modd backup
11if you want to change from modd to ms backup just select wich one you want
and as far as the eject thing unleash x has options in the misc folder of the dashboard to open and close tray use thoes
