Upgrading hard disk in a softmodded xbox without using a chipped xbox (using a pc)
basicly using this thread ... and ive tried all so many times .. but my new hd wont load evoX ... and cant ftp in
the old hd is fine and loads the evoX dashboard .. and thats the hd i copied the files from .. c and e drive and the eeprom
any help would be great and muchy appreciated

Hi Tro and welcome to HQ..
We have plenty of different tutorials which will walk you through the process.. Go and find them in our xbox tutorials area.
I read and used the tutorials ... and couldnt fix it .. could i try removing the update file??
Ill have another hunt around tonight

Some more information would help us out a lot, which softmod did you use, what error are you recieving on the xbox that tells you the new hard drive isn't working, just to make sure you did go in and lock the hard drive right?
A few things could be going on, if you used Sid 4/4.5 you could have used the shadow c drive which is basically the plain MS Dash and that would load instead of evox, also you could have copied the shadow eeprom and that would cause it to not lock for the correct xbox, and then of course with a softmod you have to lock the hard drive or it just plain won't work. Let us know a bit more information and we'll help you out. _________________

put your exploitable game back in and re softmod it.... thats is usualy what everyone does after they upgrade hd... its no bigge
it sounds to me like you did sid 4 or above.... what tut did you do on upgrading hd? or have you even upgraded it ?
for what i know you power on the upgrade hd and it loaded ms dash...

ok...
old hd is 8 or 10 gig .... i got the xbox second hand ... so i dont have any gamesaves or games (just the splinyercell gamesave)
i installed a 300gighd .... hd was locked ... no error .. just wont load evoX dashboard
cant ftp in also .. if i put the old hd back in (as i have several times) its fine .. the new hd works ... only with ms dashboard

i copy C and E only .. nothing else or less ...
i also tried without the audio folder in C .. because the image was too big for cd .. but same results
im sure its all there ... just loading the wrong dashboard...
do i need to remove any files or rename? ... could my pc be changing any file types when i copy across? .. (excuse my noobness)..
o and last of all .. i do appresiate the response and ideas ...

please re explain in short can the xbox run anything with this hd? if not you going to need a new xboxhdm image with retail ms dash on C and your eeprom.bin and E can be empty and voila _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

i only tried with no audio file .. only once .. i was clutching at straws...

I want this hard drive to be the same as the one i have ... with evox .. only more space .... so i can have my movies on there and not worry about my pc running the tv ..
so i can leave the E drive blank .. and not copy the shadow file?? ...
that would make a small iso .. like 230 meg?

do this.
re download a new fresh xboxhdm then download the ms dash 5960 from pirrups signiture or the useful links . once downloaded ms dash extract it and put it on C folder on xboxhdm1.9 put your real eeprom.bin on the eeprom folder and leave E empty for now . then you can ftp E folder .
burn that new iso with the C and eeprom then put the new hd and run the current disc and go to 3) unlock /lockin ultities . and type in unlockhd -a once its unlocked then run the new hd and make the xbox hd again.... same process etc etc.
once the new hd loads its going to load the retail ms dash. re mod it then ftp ( check under my sig ) and the xbox is going to be exactly as you first hd is .
its brought to my attention you want this disc to be cd size right? well its fine and you can ftp the E folder.. so you can have your game saves or w/e you had .... but only after the new hd is re loaded perfectly fine...
we need every file from the ms correctly. thats why i say its important to do it as i just mentioned. considering the eeprom.bin is 256k and the ms dash i think around 125... it WILL 100% surely fit on a cd just fine.
fellow my steps and you be glad you did ..... however i do recommend putting unleash x insted of evox .... it has many more features and its better ... try it out i encourage you .... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition
