hey I'm new here and here is my problem.
Up until recently I've had a softmodded xbox, modded by a friend of mine using the Mechassualt fonts exploit I believe!
Recently, my younger brother started complaining about not being able to play halo live anymore. So I googled and found out that there was now a way to "dual boot". So I thought peachy, I downloaded it, copied it over ftp and went ahead to install this new softmod OVER my existing one.
I backed up the eeprom, the old softmod, and obviously all the MS files.
Now I installed it once, everything went great, MS Dash asked me for the time etc. The only problem was my backed up MS dashboard files, had a screwed up 'fonts' folder. As I LATER found out. So I went ahead and for some dumb reason installed the dual boot softmod AGAIN. This time I encountered a weird error with no error description. Since then my xbox will only boot to the evox dash located on E. If I try to restore back to my old mod (and delete the evox files on E) everything crashes and the recovery system kicks in. So I figure I must have fooked up my virtual eeprom.
I would really appriciate any help on getting this sorted out. If I can't get dual booting to work, I would at want to go back to my old soft mod!!!
So to summarize my questions:
* Is there a way to restore back to the eeprom file SID 4.0 backed up for me?
* Is there any way to get the dual boot working on top of an already softmodded xbox?
edit: after reading a bit more about SID 4.0, it seems that I may be getting this problem:

2.- I get just a black screen when i boot it.
A.- make sure you only do it to retail xbox, that means no other softmods installed, if you have a previous softmod install, remove it and leave C in retail, all other files will not be affected, also make sure that's the only gamesave you have, and no other gamesaves in hdd of that 1 game. Another issue is that if you are trying to boot SID 4 when running modded from SID 2 or other PBL based softmod, it will lead to freeze or black screen, this is due to the fact that PBL doesn't allow nkpatcher to load, PLEASE BE IN RETAIL!
ADDED: You cannot boot SID 4, or anyother kind of Nkpatcher System if your xbox has a Flashed tsop with hacked bios like X2, EvoxM?, or any other, nkpatcher will only patch retail bioses, and it will not do anything on others, but the led color if, and same goes for Modchips.
but it worked once!!!, now I just need to roll back the SID install, back to my old mod, is that possible without starting over?
edit2:
so after several hours of tinkering and installing/uninstalling mods I seem to have fixed BUT, when I try to load my XBOX Live account settings it gives me a:

Unable to continue due to technical difficulties. Please try again later
any ideas about that?
edit3:
ok so I put in Halo 2 just for shits and giggles to see what would happen, it tells me there is an update available, I download it, next it tells me (Halo 2 that is) that it can't connect and if I want to troubleshoot, I comply and it takes me to the Xbox Live dash and starting installing an update, gets about 75% done and errors out.....
what now?!
So nvm, I figured everything out.
Restoring back to the MS Dash allowed me to perform all the updates and play Live no problem, now since my exploit game save is still on the HD, I'm able to boot to it at any time, without consequence!

thanks for the replies guys, a tad delayed but at least SOMEONE answered, I figured everything out.
I restored my xbox back to original, created a new Live account and am playing with no problem. Then when I want to access my XBMC I pop in MechAssault, Run Linux, use File Manager to load up XBMC and voila
Does take a bit more effort but right now the emphasis is on Live so I'm happy!

you are aware that you can have dual boot funtion? in other words you can stil have your softmod when you power on your xbox and you can also load a retail ms dash by pressing eject tray open and which is always safe for xbox live.....
that way you dont have to mod or put a game and this and that ..... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition
