Well I am totally new to the xbox mod scene and need some help. I installed a XEcuter 2.3b lite + chip and now dont know what the heck to do. The sceen is asking me to flash the bios. How can I do this? I also have seen Dashboards in the downloads and would like to know what these are and if I could use such. Sorry for the ineptness.

Hey bud, welcome to the site. We appreciate you becoming a VIP member.
To be totally honest, you really need to get a better basic understanding of modding. I have seen a rash of people chipping machines before even knowing what a bios is and does, let alone how to get it on your machine.
Here is some basic info, but please do yourself a favor and read Evolution X for dummies, Glossary of terms for newbies, Beginners guide to Xbox Hacking, and read some newbies stickies that address modding. Also read some posts in regard to Evolution X, Autoinstallers, things of that nature.
Once you have done that, configure a signature in your account area. Look at mine to see what I mean. Type in your version of xbox, what size HD you have, what bios you are flashing to the modchip and what modchip you have.
This way, when you ask a question, we know what we're dealing with.
Now, here's the basics.
Your modchip once it is intalled will allow you to run unassigned code on your xbox. This means programs and applications that your normal xbox bios will not. Bios stands for Basic Input Output System, or others actually call it Built In Operating System. Techincally, it's the first. When you originally turn on your machine, prior to the mod, there is a bios that is located in a chip called a TSOP. It is on the MB (Motherboard). It will boot up and then you see the MS Dashboard come up. The dashboard is the menu that says, Settings, Music, yada yada. From the MS Dash you can only do a couple things. Run original games, load Music CD's, go to xbox live.
Your modchip allows you to install (FLASH) a hacked bios to it. By hacked bios I mean a bios other than MS or Cromwell. We have bios' here in our VIP download section. My advice is Xecuter2 4983.67 bios. Now, there are things you have to do to prep the bios before burning. You have to turn it into a .ISO file. Please read a tutorial on how to do that. You can use many .ISO creation programs, may I suggest Nero. It is awesome. This is a must for you to learn. If you can't flash your modchip, you have installed for nothing. Since you chose a Xecuter 2.3 Chip, you have to flash your modchip with a programmer and cable. There are tutorials on this so I won't go into detail. You probably should have flashed your chip prior to installing. Did you solder or go with a solderless install? I have never used the X23's so I don't know if you can flash when it's on the MB the very first time, or ever for that matter. Someone set me straight on that please.
Once the bios is flashed to the modchip, now your xbox will allow you to run unassigned code, such as our xbox-hq autoinstaller. The autoinstaller has everything you need. I'll talk more about it in a bit.
The first thing you need to do is format your HD according to whether it's the retail drive or a newer Larger HD. The autoinstaller will do this for you.
The next thing you need on your xbox (via the installer) is your Hacked Dashboard. Remember the MS Dash. Well, Evolution X makes a dashboard for your modded machine. It gets intalled on the C drive via the autoinstaller. This dashboard will allow you to launch applications to backup games to your HD, launch multi media applications, and configure your IP Settings so you can FTP into and out of your xbox. Please see FTP'ing and Networking tutorials on this.
After you install your Dash, then you can install your apps.
After you install your apps, then you can install the original MS Dashboard that you wiped out when you formatted your HD. All of these things are done through the autoinstaller.
After your MS Dash is on, then you have to lock your HD. This is also done through the autoinstaller.
I would go on with a few other things, but I am positive your head is spinning right now and you have not a clue as to what I am saying...
Don't worry, we were all there at one time. The big problem here is, you chipped your machine prior to knowing all that was involved. Don't go a step further until you know what you are doing. You can really waste your time and patience if you don't read up.
Get a game plan. Start off step by step. Make a checklist of all the things you have to do and then start learning about them one at a time. You don't have to master them, just have a basic understanding so you can give a whirl and ask questions if you get jammed on one specific issue. As you can see, your question was not a simple one. There is so much more for you to learn right now, but in all honesty, it should only take a day or two of good reading to get the basics. Especially since I laid out some guidelines for you.
If you would have posted this at Xbox Scene, they would have bitched up a storm. I am glad you came here bud!!
Anyway, good luck with the mod. Let us know if we can help you out any further. We have all the files you need. Don't worry about them now. They aren't going anywhere. Get some knowledge under your belt and then fire away.
